POW/MIA Flag now deemed racist - shiftyeagle - 08-12-2015 12:03 PM Probably the most ridiculous thing I've read in some time. The worst aspect of the internet is is provides platforms for talentless, brainless cucks to spread their nonsense to the masses. I guess Newsweek is struggling and needed "views." I cannot fathom why else they'd actually publish this ****. *POW/MIA Flag proudly hangs on the wall of my garage* RE: POW/MIA Flag now deemed racist - ECUGrad07 - 08-12-2015 12:04 PM Link? I'm not doubting that some BLM piece of **** thinks this... just would like to read their rationale. Makes no sense. RE: POW/MIA Flag now deemed racist - shiftyeagle - 08-12-2015 12:08 PM (08-12-2015 12:06 PM)JMUDunk Wrote: thought There's a severe lack of this. I guess they'll give any effeminate cuck a journalism degree these days. RE: POW/MIA Flag now deemed racist - UCF08 - 08-12-2015 12:08 PM Here's a link to the actual article I think you're referring to, which was just reprinted in Newsweek. I took a look at it, and it's actually a pretty interesting op-ed and provides a new perspective on the whole MIA/POW issue in Vietnam, and how government officials used that label to encourage the war effort. Not sure why you focused on the racist aspect of the flag, that seemed to be something that was simply in the first few sentences as a click-bait of sort, but the article itself is worth reading. Even if you disagree fully with it. RE: POW/MIA Flag now deemed racist - shiftyeagle - 08-12-2015 12:13 PM (08-12-2015 12:08 PM)UCF08 Wrote: the racist aspect of the flag

It just seems click-baitey, and it's unfortunate because there is probably an interesting discussion about how that symbol is utilized by politicians in the past and present, and how we should feel about that topic being politicized. RE: POW/MIA Flag now deemed racist - shiftyeagle - 08-12-2015 12:21 PM It probably is. Traditionally hard-copy outlets are struggling to keep up with the times and the interweb age. I imagine posting nonsensical garbage like this is a relatively surefire way to increase "views" or "clicks." RE: POW/MIA Flag now deemed racist - UCF08 - 08-12-2015 12:24 PM (08-12-2015 12:21 PM)shiftyeagle Wrote: It probably is. If you read the article itself, it's not even really addressed at all. It's all about how the MIA/POW designation was changed in the hopes of gaining more public support for Vietnam, not about how it is at all racist. It's in the intro sentence, and then just never brought up again (through my skimming of it, at least). Seems obvious even for clickbait. Though I do see the flag outside of Biker Bars in areas which I'd feel relatively confident aren't too 'diversity friendly', it's a pretty ludicrous claim to make, especially if the author has a completely different point they're trying to make. RE: POW/MIA Flag now deemed racist - shiftyeagle - 08-12-2015 12:37 PM Yes, when the article starts off like this: "You know that racist flag? The one that supposedly honors history but actually spreads a pernicious myth? And is useful only to venal right-wing politicians who wish to exploit hatred by calling it heritage? It’s past time to pull it down. Oh, wait. You thought I was referring to the Confederate flag. Actually, I’m talking about the POW/MIA flag." That is meant to set the tone for the entire thing. RE: POW/MIA Flag now deemed racist - Hokie4Skins - 08-12-2015 12:44 PM Stop it. Talk about a straw man argument. Somehow he conflates the ARVN's treatment of NVA prisoners with this "issue." As if no one in the U.S. should ever think of POWs since the people we supported weren't nice to their prisoners. What?
