Could the A-Sun and Big South make a deal? A-Sun can invite all the non-football schools from the Gulf South Conference in D2, and Big 12 can invite all the football members of the Gulf South Conference. Delta State could go to the Southland.

I think you grossly underestimate the complexity of moving up from D2, given how a large portion of your expansion scenarios involve multiple teams moving up.

I can't help but believe UAB's Watts led the ASUN on, by insisting no DII schools be added, and then pulling the rug from under them. NJIT was probably the backup plan.
DII schools have to be added next year, as even NJIT is at high risk to leave if they get a better offer.

Still, it was smart that the A-Sun had a back-up plan and then acted on it right away to at least come away with something.

I could see the ASUN letting the Belt keep NJIT's men's soccer for a year or two until the Belt finds a replacement.

The announcement said "all sports" for '15-'16. And the A-Sun has men's soccer.

NJIT's move also leaves America East with only five teams for women's tennis. I'm not sure how America East escapes that one other than one of its own members adding a program. Vermont, Maine, UMass-Lowell, New Hampshire, do not have programs.
We are down to one independent in Division I baseball, the New York Institute of Technology. It would be nice to see either America East or the CAA pick them up as both conferences are at odd numbers of members in baseball.

No chance of that. The Sun Belt can get Incarnate Word or Houston Baptist from the WAC. The WAC has plenty of extra affiliates in that sport, like UNLV, AF, and SJSU. Sun Belt men's soccer will have to operate with five teams for a year, as Houston Baptist and Incarnate Word already have released their schedules.
