They said how hard it would be for scheduling as an Independent.

We start in the Swamp for a 1.25Mill buy game.
Play two New England rivals of UConn and BC.
Then we host SEC power Miss State.
Hopefully we'll not be to bruised in finishing the schedule against mostly G5 teams.

9/3 @UF
9/10 vs. UCONN
9/17 @ BC

I don't see a winning record for UMass - but what I do see is a legitimate Division I schedule.

Your AD is giving you an honest effort. Good luck.

RE: UMass Football - CameramanJ - 06-08-2015 03:28 PM

Hopefully UMass doesn't find trouble putting together decent schedules like this one in the future.

I hope UMass has success, but not too much.

My hat is off to UMass' AD.

May 18. Tulane cancels TU @ MSU 2016
May 19. Mississippi State announces that they've moved their game @ Louisiana Tech to 2017
May 21. Louisiana Tech @ UMass 2016 announced
June 4. Tulane @ UMass 2016 announced
June 8. Mississippi State @ UMAss 2016 announced

Ryan Bamford. Makes Things Happen.

Oh yes, I've been to all 4 of those games listed so far and intend on going to the next 2. I'm okay with a once every 2 seasons thing if that's what we'll get. Looking forward to seeing the series extended (even if we've yet to pull a victory to date).

Good schedule. Pleasantly surprised.

November is going to be brutal. These are exactly the type of opponents they should be scheduling but goodness is that a lot of travel in one month.

UMass Football - chargeradio - 06-08-2015 08:09 PM

IfUMass could get by with only 5 home games regularly, having the extra road game could be very lucrative. Getting paid as much as $1.2 MM for a road game for 3 road games and having to pay out only a fraction of that for an FCS team (assuming the other 8 games are home/home deals) to visit should put UMass about $3 MM ahead each year just on game guarantees. If UMass could get a 13th game for 2016 that would be icing on the cake. If UMass played in the Sun Belt it would be required to play a sixth home game every two years.

Bamford already said there will not be a 13th game in 2016...which is a smart move. The schedule is already going to be brutal, with tough opponents to start the season and a month straight of travel to end it.

I am pulling for you guys, I want UMass in The AAC.

UMass has had one NCAA tournament bid since 1998. And that was a one and done crashout in 2014. Their last win in the NCAA's was in 1996. That being said...their basketball is a valuable product and they've rarely been bad. They've won 8 NIT games since 2008 (including a trip to the NIT finals).

A new UMass football stadium could reverse AAC unwanted interest, IMHO.

RE: UMass Football - EmeryZach - 06-09-2015 08:02 AM

Yeah, we absolutely need to work on our on-campus stadium. Needs a complete renovation (except for the new press box and training center). Our new AD is working on raising private funds. The Anti-Sports professors are really fighting against more money being spent on football, so we also have to spend time fighting them. The Anti-Sports professors at UMass are an embarrassment to the school.

It will be interesting to see what happens first, the IPF for all sports or closing in the endzone. Can see both being completed in the next 2-3 years. The stadium does not look bad and hope the end zone can blend in as well as the new Football Performance Center.

RE: UMass Football - Sam Minuteman - 06-13-2015 10:42 PM

A very unsubstantiated rumor has South Carolina as the 12th game on UMass' schedule (in 2016 as an indy). Would make for a ridiculously tough indy schedule, it already includes 3 P-5 schools.

If the game is at home it would mean no games on campus that year, I'd like to think it means there would be upgrades to the stadium made which are big enough to require a year without games on campus. Maybe UMass makes these upgrades without a conference affiliation, but the administration has shown it is more likely to make upgrades contingent on an offer of conference affiliation.

The AD has already said on twitter something along the lines of "don't expect a bowl" since those arrangements are lined up well ahead of time and there isn't one in place. So the plan is for the Hawaii trip (after playing at BYU the week before) to be the "bowl" at the end of the season. This means there isn't as much of a reason to schedule a cream puff. Why not play the best teams out there, "Go Big or Go Home".

Gotta love the offseason!
