NYT: Vatican to Recognize Palestinian State in New Treaty - ARandomHerdFan - 05-14-2015 12:12 PM

JERUSALEM — The Vatican announced Wednesday that it would soon sign a treaty that includes recognition of the “state of Palestine,” lending significant symbolic weight to an intensifying Palestinian push for international support for sovereignty that bypasses the paralyzed negotiations with Israel...

A push for peace in the region.

Religions should be for peace and against perpetual war.

Pope Francis is not for the perpetuation of death and violence in that region. He took a stand.

Now, let all the accusations of the Pope's anti-Semitism begin.

Viva il Papa!!!

Recognition of Palestine as a state when Palestine itself does not recognize the right of Israel to exist will not advance peace. Rather, it rewards violence from the Palestinians.

He may purport to take a stand against the perpetuation of death and violence in that region, but in fact, he did the opposite.

The status quo obviously is NOT working.

The region has been treading water for decades. There's been no progress. Changes are needed.

Stripping Israel of sovereingty to appease the savages will not yield peace.

Remember that there are Palestinian Christians too.

---

The Palestinian notion of statehood is a fact today. Much of the world is moving to that realization. And there are plenty in Israel that understand that too. But Bibi....not so much.

Well when the people of Israel decide democratically to give up their property and hand the reigns over to the Palestinians, then they can probably work up their own state. Until then, it will take a major armed invasion. And of course there is the issue that in both the Old Testament and the Qaran, each side claims it is theirs.

The status quo is not yielding peace. Pope Francis is solution-oriented. The rest of the world seems to want the problem to perpetuate itself.

No, Pope Francis is a socialist (and I say this as a Catholic). The Jesuits (and I say this as someone that went to their university) are SJWs that struggle with the existence of good and evil. You want peace there? Destroy the evil, don't cave to it. Israel needs to figure that out themselves before the evil becomes strong enough to destroy the good. There is no solution that any pope, president, or UN council will ever be able to create that will lead to peace.

This has been an interesting Pope. I wonder when he'll talk about outlawing fracking.

I simply disagree with you on this. Violence will not fix violence. No, Pope Francis isn't a pure-capitalist, but I wouldn't call him a socialist either.

RE: NYT: Vatican to Recognize Palestinian State in New Treaty - HeartOfDixie - 05-14-2015 03:28 PM

Pope Francis is not a socialist. That's inane. He's a Catholic and he follows the Church's line right on down through economic theory. It's left of the right wing insanity we have in this country but it is far, insanely far, from socialism.

Oh yeah, then please show me where in the Catechicm it talks about global warming. He is more like a good left-wing lawyer in that he is great at finding loopholes in the Church's line to suit a political agenda. That is what the Jesuits do and how they were trained. Just "follow your conscience" and you can do what you want, church teaching be damned. I do respect the fact that he hasn't used his political opinions to actually change any dogma yet. Hopefully that at least continues.

RE: NYT: Vatican to Recognize Palestinian State in New Treaty - shiftyeagle - 05-14-2015 03:50 PM

I think you, like many others, are misconstruing what the Pope has said or simply taken some quotes out of context. Pope Francis is very, very Catholic. I'm not sure what he has said that has gone against Scripture, Tradition, or the Catechism.

RE: NYT: Vatican to Recognize Palestinian State in New Treaty - EverRespect - 05-14-2015 03:56 PM

I never said he wasn't Catholic and political opinions generally do not go against scripture or Catechism. As long as they remain just that - opinions - I am cool with him. He is still a socialist. Nothing in the scripture or Catechism forbids him from believeing in global warming or govenment forced redistribution, but nothing requires it either. So yeah, if that is what he is going to be talking about in front of congress as the representative of Catholicism and christianity, I'm going to be pissed off because it has nothing to do with either.

Don't worry, the Christians won't be around long. Islam has discovered its own "final solution" for that problem.

The Palestinians don't even want a two state solution. They just want Israel driven into the sea.

This.

Is it the Palestinians that want that, or the outside agitators?
