NMSU Loses DC and OC - CrimsonPhantom - 12-29-2014 02:52 PM

NMSU DC is retiring and the OC is expected to take a HC job at a D2 school. The revolving door of assistants continues at NMSU.

On a side note its been mentioned that some of the SBC ADs have already informed our new AD that NMSU will need to look elsewhere after 2017. At least we have plenty of time to put together a Indy schedule for 2018.

Damn, I'm sorry to hear that, I wanted you guys in for ALL sports . . . Sounds like the conference wants to retract the western part of its footprint . . . Not sure that's good for us long term . . . .

Interesting... If NMSU & Idaho supposedly getting the boot that will leave us with 9 schools. Are we going into the direction of MO State, EKU & Liberty by 2018?

I hope not, hopefully you all can turn things around and stay in the belt.

I hope that's not the case. NMSt would make a great all sports addition.

Say it isn't so! I really liked NMSU in the Belt and was hoping to see you guys added for all sports.

That is just the craziest thing ever.

I don't understand that at all. 03-banghead

Oh I FULLY understand bringing the football only thing to a conclusion. What I don't understand is NMSU not getting a full invite.

RE: NMSU Loses DC and OC - RoyK - 12-29-2014 03:37 PM

Wow that's rough.

Did some one post this at crimson to the core? The regents need to open up the check book and get us in as a full member

Harsh but understandable.

It will be very, very difficult to get games after mid-October.

Can NMSU afford to go independent? It's hard to do by smaller schools

Troy was independent from 2001-2003 and as I understand it, it was hard on us financially

We were Indy in 2013 and dr Boston said he didn't think we could do it more than one year.

RE: NMSU Loses DC and OC - Eagleditka - 12-29-2014 04:20 PM

The Conference probably just wants a tighter, more southeastern geographic footprint. Whether this means adding teams or staying at 9 and having a conference where everyone plays one another, this move is about the bottomline. ADs have to worry about their budgets. NMSU and Idaho add nothing of value to the conference in football and are the most expensive games to travel to. NMSU is too far from most of the Sun Belt to justify adding them for all-sports.

RE: NMSU Loses DC and OC - arkstfan - 12-29-2014 04:42 PM

NMSU has a leg up on most trying to go indy as long as UNM and UTEP continue to schedule. That leaves just four slots to fill at home and there is likely always going to be someone who would do a home/neutral site series. That would leave three home slots.

Not easy but not impossible.

The bigger burden is recruiting when everyone you recruit against is going to point out that no amount of winning guarantees a shot at a bowl.

I was told this awhile ago, which is why I have been in a crappy mood on the Aggie sites. I haven't posted it because I cannot confirm whether it is true or not, i.e. confirm with another Aggie that is in the know. Most of the time I am contacted with "did you hear...?" Where I got the info has been reliable in the past. I just like waiting to hear from a secondary source if its true, which I have not yet. A few of the others I check with are on vacation. I try not to bug people around holidays. I am hoping for once my reliable source is wrong.

I know what I have said sounds flimsy, but I have had conversation's with others who have left me to believe that it is true. Mainly they don't want to discuss it. So I am told this by a reliable source and other reliable people are denying to say whether it is or isn't true. 90% of the time I have had info like this in the past and it has been true. Most of the time the confirmation that I was right about something comes in the form of NMSU releasing a statement or another entity suggests it, which pushes NMSU to address it. I would gladly like my credibility to take a hit and be wrong then right in this instance.

Only BYU, Navy and Notre Dame can make it as Independents into bowls.

RE: NMSU Loses DC and OC - TheRevSWT - 12-29-2014 04:57 PM

I'd hate to see that happen. If anything, I'd prefer NMSU all sports, Idaho leaves, and Missouri State & EKU come on board full members.

EKU satisfies the East, helps in basketball (before anyone says EKU's basketball is not impressive, remember right now neither is the Sun Belt's), helps in football (theoretically), and brings balance to the conference.

Missouri State brings in basketball, makes stAte happier, and a new market.

Splits up to a 12/14 league, which is mighty nice, and finally shuts up the App fans crying for a conference championship game. EVERYONE wins.

RE: NMSU Loses DC and OC - CajunFanatico - 12-29-2014 05:32 PM

Let's just drop the Sunbelt to two teams, the Cajuns and Ga Southern. They can duke it out every weekend once OOC is over. Last man standing in the series wins the conference.
