2015 Football (I know it's early) - Rojogrande - 12-10-2014 01:34 PM

Yes I know it is early and several of our teams still have a game to be played. The news of Doughty coming back next season has Hilltopper fans hoping for a special season in 2015.

WKU has a nice OOC schedule set up next year. If defense improves and offense stays the course it could be a special year. WKU will return 8 starters on offense (lose 1 WR and 2 lineman) and 9 starters on defense (1 CB to NFL and 1 LB).

2015 OOC:

@Vanderbilt to open season
@Indiana week 3
vs Miami (OH) week 4
@LSU (Oct 24th)

Should get Marshall and MTSU at home.

What does everyone else have in the way of returning starters and OOC?

We return 6 starters on offense (We lose three linemen and two receivers). On defense, we return 5 starters, and a DE that although he wasn't a starter, was on the all-freshmen team.

UTSA runs the gauntlet again. The road games are going to be brutal, but I think you could steal one of the home games.

Tough schedule no doubt but if we can steal a win against K State or perhaps Colorado St...boom!

Main thing is to stay healthy for our annual whooping of North Texas 05-stirthepot

If WKU gets a defense,with Doughty back, there are going to be tough to beat in the East.

Marshall has to replace some skill players but Doc has a lot to choose from. I'm pretty sure we'll be competitive and likely 8-4 or better.

Yea, I think 8+ wins is a good target on initial expectations. It will all come down to quarterback play and how our offensive line can step up from losing 3 RS SR starters. Skill positions won't be a problem.

Marshall's biggest problem is that replacing a four year starting QB is one of the hardest things to do in college football. The history is not kind to those teams but Marshall has a ton of talent to help the transition.

Western's biggest problem is the defense. You almost need a change in staff/philosophies otherwise you're not likely to see a signficant improvement. But trying to outscore everyone can be fun.

Middle Tennessee's biggest problem is our coaching staff isn't maximizing the most out of our players. On paper we have an outstanding team. And next year with the QB having a full year under his belt and returning a boat load of experienced players we should again have a really, really good team on paper. The question is whether we're going to bring in some new coaches that are going to maximize talent instead of wasting it.

If you're ODU, Charlotte, FIU and FAU you have to be looking up at these three teams going WTF which collectively have a long way to go to catch up. And yest I know FIU upset us, but that's really what I'm talking about with our staff.

Any of us three can win the league next year, but we all face some signficant challenges. The one that overcomes those challenges comes out of the east.

@ Illinois
Vanderbilt

RE: 2015 Football (I know it's early) - MinerInWisconsin - 12-10-2014 03:39 PM

First of all, I'm picking WKU in the east with a tough fight vs MT. Marshall loses Cato and more but has the makings of a good team, just not as good. UAB would have been in the race with all the starters they would have had back. FAU and FIU should be better too. ODU should be down a bit and Charlotte will see its first FBS action.

LT should be favored in the west followed closely by Rice and UTEP. USM will be much better and UNT should be on the rise. UTSA should struggle since they lose so many starters.

Returning: Just about everybody.

Early in the season this year, I would have said that Ga St. is probably the only possible D1 win we have next year, but with UTSA shitting the bed this year, and losing a huge number of players, that might be another winnable game.

I still don't see more than 3 wins in our schedule next year though and less is probably likely. I wouldn't be shocked if Presby is the only win we have unless we get lucky and bring in some great JuCos in the coming months.
