Alabama will play anybody for their 12th game - BTR - 05-29-2014 07:57 PM

So before you say that this isn't Blazer related... we have frequently talked about how they will not play in state school. Many have said that they should play instate schools. This Sports Illustrated article said they will play anyone.

I can think of one school that they would absolutely say no to. I think we should call their bluff.

Now people on here will respond to this and say that there is no way in hell they would want to play Bama in football

However, I would be in favor of it. I have a lot of friends in Tuscaloosa and would love to pull for my blazers against bama and would have a great time tailgating there on the quad.

And heaven forbid we stay in the game or...gasp, dare to take the lead. The gumps would drive in mass to the South side and tear UAB apart brick by brick.

UAT hasn't played an in-state school not named Auburn since World War II.

and they aren't going to. It would be fun to call their bluff though. They don't really mean they would play anyone.

I wonder how much they spend per athlete?

RE: Alabama will play anybody for their 12th game - the_blazerman - 05-29-2014 09:11 PM

Could someone tell me a Bear story?

RE: Alabama will play anybody for their 12th game - TPBlaze84 - 05-29-2014 09:33 PM

Do they give money to other programs in exchange for game arrangements?

I don't want to play them.

I value my trees.

I wonder if they'll be willing to play at LF 03-lmfao

I wonder to whom you are referring when speaking of Paul Bryant and the Crimson Tide of the 1950s through the 1970s? (GRIN) That era encompasses the first half of my life when that school was my primary sports affection. I was 13 when I saw (on TV) Tommie Lewis jump from the sideline to tackle Rice's Dickey Maegle in the 1954 Cotton Bowl. I was in high school when I saw Bart Starr play at Legion Field in a season the Tide went 0-10 (in the midst of 20 consecutive losses over 3 seasons) and he was drafted in the 17th (& last) round by Green Bay.

I was on campus when Bama won its first NC under Bryant in 1961 and graduated in August 1963, the summer that began with Wallace's "Stand in the School House Door". The state's national image spawned by "Bull" Conner in B'ham in 1963 and George Wallace at the Edmund Pettus Bridge the next year probably cost undefeated Bama the NC in 1966.

In 1980, the emotional and financial costs of divorce separated me from any interest but work, managing the 2 teenagers who stayed with me, paying on a 13 3/4% second mortgage (in 1981 it was considered a bargain rate) and being single at 40 took all my energy and attention. It was a good time to become a Blazer fan and that is what I am today. I attended UAB games at the BJCC with my dad in his final years and with my brother.

truthfully, I don't really care if we play Bama at all, but I do covet the millions they throw at other state's schools every year while their bosses watch UAB struggle to meet expenses.

I bet if you asked the players every one of them would love the chance to play against Bama

Nobody on the southside is the reason they don't play.

I don't want to play them. I value our player's safety, and that game will do absolutely nothing for us. I hate Bama as much as any of us on here, but if we play that game 100 times, we lose all 100, and probably get a player seriously injured in half of them. No thank you.

I understand where you're coming from and respect it…

but remember Appalachian State?

Oh yeah, it would be worth a shot – if the coaches and players wanted it.

That Appalachian State team would have probably been a legit FBS team that year. And that Michigan team was nowhere near what Bama is today. I'm more worried about finishing .500+ in conference than I am playing a team that will crush us out of conference.

It was the first game of the season for both teams. Michigan was ranked No 5 and given to win the Big Ten. No one knew the outcome of the game until it was played.

… and Michigan's world was rocked. I'm glad that happens occasionally in the world. Can't never did anything.

But we don't have to worry about making a choice to play that other team. It would be a cold day in hell before they'd agree to play UAB.

I don't want to play them. We don't have an opening and in 2015 first of all and have a chance to go 3-1 OOC. It could be a huge year. Why screw that up? I hope everyone tells them to go piss up a rope.
