NBR: The Rampage coaster to rise again.. - blazerjay - 03-15-2014 12:44 PM

The new owners of "Splash Adventure" announced plans to re-establish "Alabama Adventure with a complete refurbishment of the Rampage roller coaster.

The Koch Family, long time theme park operators recently spent $100 million upgrading their park in Indiana, Holiday World, which attracts 1 million visitors a year. They intend to re-establish Alabama Adventure as a 2nd gate within their 5-year plan.

Not sure how useful free wifi is at a water park

I wouldn't go there to connect to the internet.

I took the fam there last year for a day & we didn't really enjoy it.

The place looked rather run down.

A few years ago I had season passes with my older daughter & we had a little bit better time.

Rampage was good, can't believe the last owners decided to do away with the rides part of the park.

Not too big a fan of Larry Langford, but I do believe the park has had some good points in its history.

Not charging for parking & floats will help out.

Lord, the commentary.

Theme parks full of teenagers. Imagine.

Imagine going there at night to see a concert by Raven Simone.
People all over the place.

I didn't have to imagine, I was there.

This will be good for Birmingham. I've heard that Holiday World is a first class operation.

What kind of people were all over the place?

Yep, they had over a million visitors last year, and it's in rural Indiana. I think this family will breath some life into that place.

As SIX FLAGS in GA has proven over the years, if an amusement park wants to remain competitive over many years, it must constantly evolve with newer and ever larger rides and attractions. This will be true of Alabama Adventure because just being close won't be enough to sustain it even in an era of $3+ gasoline. This continuing expense drove OPREYLAND out of the market so they sold all their rides and closed their shows, leaving them with only the hotel. CYPRESS GARDENS with its famous water skiing shows and tropical plant display touring walkways had to join the list of closures as well.

We saw Restless Heart there. Spent the day at the park and had a great time. If people had always listened to the naysayers and negative nancies we would still be in the Stone Age.

Great for Birmingham.

Kids and teenagers at a amusement park watching Raven Simone. That is very weird. Now if Rush Limbaugh had been the act, I would get the kids and teenagers being all over the place...03-lmfao

Imagine a place for instance that held 1000 people normally & had 2000 there. A lot more people that were there than were on a regular basis.

"People all over the place"

Like 12000 at a UAB basketball game at Bartow or 30,000 at a football game.

They need to just quit trying...

I agree. Birmingham and surrounding areas should quit trying to provide quality entertainment in the area. Just like UAB should quit trying to get a new stadium and just stick with Legion Field.

It can be good again. It used to be.

I don't think it has ever been good. The park has been sorely mismanaged. And I have never been crazy about the location of the park. I think the park needs to be visible from the interstate instead of it being hidden from view. Seeing the park provides free advertising for visitors traveling 20/59 and a tourist site should be easily visible anyway.

The potential is there for the park to become a great amusement park with the proper management team with vision and progressive attitude.

I enjoyed the Rampage and the Concerts. I saw Steppenwolf, 38 Special and 3 Dog Night. The park was nice when it first opened but they didn't keep up the landscaping or keep the bathrooms clean and stocked.
