Obamacare Architect : ‘Be Prepared To Kiss Your Insurance Company Good Bye Forever’ - EagleRockCafe - 03-04-2014 11:13 PM ![]() This guy just can’t help but give out the plan… Ezekiel Emanuel, one of the architects behind Obamacare, is now claiming that “insurance companies as we know them are about to die.” Critics of President Barack Obama’s signature health care law have long alleged that one of the real goals of the law was to put private insurance companies out of business. “The good news is you won’t have insurance companies to kick around much longer. The system is changing,” Emanuel writes in an op-ed on New Republic. “As a result, insurance companies as they are now will be going away. Indeed, they are already evolving. For the next few years insurance companies will both continue to provide services to employers and, increasingly, compete against each other in the health insurance exchanges.” Due to Obamacare, “new actors will force insurance companies to evolve or become extinct,” he continues. Instead, new groups called “accountable care organizations” (ACOs) must start competing directly in the health care exchanges for exclusive contracts with employers. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/03/03/obamacare-architect-be-prepared-to-kiss-your-insurance-company-good-bye-forever/ RE: Obamacare Architect : ‘Be Prepared To Kiss Your Insurance Company Good Bye Forever’ - smn1256 - 03-04-2014 11:20 PM How many voters work in the insurance industry? What he should have said is that a group of liberal politicians locked themselves in a room and, without any input from the GOP, they walked out with a flawed bill that none of them read, that most of them didn't understand, that many are now running from, and forced it down the throats of the American people where the majority is against the law all while Obama gives waivers to his buddies and tweaks the law as to minimize impact on elections. To achieve this great feat many, many lies were told and are still being told. It's hurting more people than it helps. And even if you cough up the money for the increased premiums the actual costs of seeing a doctor are still prohibitive. No families will see their premiums drop by $2500, it's a tax, it's killing jobs, the costs keep rising and rising despite assurances of the opposite, and politicians don't give a crap because it's all about politics and control. That's what he should have said. RE: Obamacare Architect :‘Be Prepared To Kiss Your Insurance Company Good Bye Forever - GoodOwl - 03-05-2014 11:42 AM Heath Insurance and health care would be best if left completely independent of both employers and government. It should be completely portable and independent. Decisions on spending are best made by the patient and his/her doctor. HSAs for everyone would solve the problem quickly and drastically reduce costs for everyone. Poor could then be subsidized for their own, independently-owned HSAs at a far reduced cost to the taxpayers. Permanently disabled could have either HSAs with the insurance picking up the tab for their chronic condition expenses, or be separated out into a specific pool funded by govt for far, far less than costs of ACA. Sounds like a version of this plan has been submitted to the public already, but completely ignored by the press for quite some time: link here: http://www.gop.gov/indepth/pledge/healthcare RE: Obamacare Architect : ‘Be Prepared To Kiss Your Insurance Company Good Bye Forever’ - Fitbud - 03-05-2014 12:02 PM I don't see how that is possible. Obamacare forces everyone to get insurance therefore, doesn't it simply funnel miillions of customers to insurance companies. I would think that they would be jumping for joy. Remember the original purpose of Obamacare was to provide insurance to the "...30 million uninsured..." Even the most sceptical of us, didn't expect the number of front end problems with Obamacare. We anticipated that Obamacare would become a problem because too many people would be chasing too few doctors, and that the costs would skyrocket (still highly likely). But the unexpectedly low enrollments have caught the insurance companies by surprise and even worse, there is a strong adverse selection bias that has skewed the cost curve. At this point, the only solution will be to increase premiums even further. Well, leave it to the insurance companies to always find a way to make a profit. Let's not forget for a minute that they are in the business of making money and not providing health care. It gets health care off the employers back. Man, do you misunderstand the issue. Insurance companies have never been in the business of "providing healthcare." Healthcare Providers are the ones that do that. Insurance pays for those procedures done by the providers. This has been one of the goals for a long time for the left - destroying the health insurance industry, so that the government can step in. Emmanuel only let it slip out. Every once in a while, when the left sees itself getting closer to their goals, in a bit of pre-spiking of the ball, they let their guard slip and actually proclaim what they are trying, ultimately, to do. So, why do we hear about how many people are getting access to healthcare under Obamacare, instead of hearing how people are getting access to health insurance? Tom, I actually agree that getting all employers out of the direct healthcare involvement would be a good thing, however it is just as bad to replace the employer involvement in healthcare with government involvement in healthcare. Better to allow an employer to make a tax-deductible (as a business expense) permanent contribution to an individual employee's owned account for healthcare and insurance expenses and then the individual employee determines how he or she wants to go about using that themselves. It's a little thing called "freedom." Many health insurance companies, including such big players as Kaiser Permanente and many of the Blues, are non-profits. Of course they can not lose money and survive, so they seek to generate a surplus in order to grow and accrue for future expenses. And it is true that none are in the health care business. They are in the insurance business and that is a bigger difference than you may think. In particular the public sector unions will throw a hissy fit if anyone tries to change their Cadillac health care plans. |
