Angryaphid you are probably starting to feel pretty lonely! RE: Oldest known Holocaust survivor dies at 110 - GoApps70 - 02-24-2014 05:02 PM Always hard to believe that a bunch of people could just kill a bunch of other people because they do not like them; whether the Holocaust or mass other killings. RE: Oldest known Holocaust survivor dies at 110 - WPDAWG08 - 02-24-2014 07:40 PM No the real mass killings today are b/t christians and muslims in Africa. Please do not turn this thread into zealotry! RE: Oldest known Holocaust survivor dies at 110 - mptnstr@44 - 02-24-2014 07:58 PM I find it hard to believe that there are Holocaust deniers. How can someone deny something that happened when we have people still living who survived it and were first-hand witnesses to the slaughter? RE: Oldest known Holocaust survivor dies at 110 - smn1256 - 02-24-2014 11:23 PM When I was a kid there was a man and wife team who worked their asses off in a bakery, and I mean they worked their asses off. They also had the tattooed numbers the Nazis put on their forearms. They died before I could fully appreciate their struggle. They were good people. I hate when people politicize something that needs to be kept clear of politics. This is about the death of the oldest known holocaust survivor. RE: Oldest known Holocaust survivor dies at 110 - HeartOfDixie - 02-24-2014 11:26 PM I agree with Math here; the abortion post was in extremely poor taste. The issue is killing, not religion. Your comment mentions religion, not mine. The lady who was the holocaust survivor found a way to preserve her life in the midst of mindless killing. I'm sure some of those in the camp she was in might well have said to her (or even yelled at her and the others playing) "What's the point? People are dying despite what you are doing." I did not mention politics either, only quoted numbers of people killed in different scenarios to show the mind-boggling magnitude of what is being done and referenced the source. Like people mention the 6,000,000 killed in the Holocaust, but conveniently ignore the 20,000,000 killed by Stalin in Russia. Or the genocide in Africa, or in China, or South America, etc... etc... If one is outraged about killing, then one is outraged about killing. One can be an atheist and be against killing. Or for it, for that matter. One can be apolitical or independent and against killing. Or for it for that matter. The lady who was the Holocaust survivor chose to speak in the way she could, which was through music. Providing a light in the darkness, no matter how dark. Preserving some life instead of despairing that all was lost since so many had been killed already, and the killing was not stopping because of what she was doing. She did it anyway, and kept playing until her death. In deference to your comments, I pared the original comment way down and moved the data to another thread. My posting it was in response to the comment about people mass killing people. I don't know if you have a direct family connection to the Nazis tyranny or the Holocaust, but I do. Let's say killing the innocent of any category is a sensitive topic for me. Drawing parallels to educate the public at large so that people do not repeat the tragedies and atrocities of the past is the exact thing many people who survived fought so hard to do with the rest of their lives, in whatever ways they could. Muslims and Hindus in India. Muslims and Jews in Israel. Coming over the horizon: Muslims and "nones" in Europe. Although the voluntarily plunging birth-rates among the "nones" will reduce the casualties. (02-24-2014 07:58 PM)mptnstr@44 Wrote: I find it hard to believe that there are Holocaust deniers. The "rational", "civilized" part of our consciousness recoils from the very idea of it. One of Eisenhower's shrewdest decisions was to recognize -- immediately -- the need to get photographs and film of the death-camps while the survivors (and some of the dead) were still there in spring of 1945. Instinctively, Ike just knew that this (denial of what had actually happened) would be an issue (both at the time, and in the future) and he wanted to preserve as much evidence as he could.
