How to stop the fast breaks off of our dunks - cmt - 01-24-2014 03:59 PM

Since there are obviously many coaches and players here reading this board, I would like to let them know the easiest way to stop those fast breaks Houston kept getting off of our dunks.

When you dunk it, or if you are nearby, simple follow the ball through the net and make sure you either knock the ball away from the other team's inbound passer or try to impede the inbound passer's ability to get out of bounds and make a half court pass.

And don't be obvious or the refs won't like it too much.

And the rest of you, get your #$%$@ @$$e$ down the court.

I remember Pearl's UT teams being pretty good at doing something like this. They would catch the made shot and pass it to the ref. This let them set up their press.

Good way to get T'd up.

The easiest way is for the guards to be rotating to the top of the key. This is pretty basic basketball, but the guard on the wing should be immediately rotating up top. It is discipline. This usually should fall on JJ or CC since Geron almost always crashes in to rebound. Just basic rotations.

Err'y damn time (well, after the first time, in which you're warned).

touching the ball after a made field goal is a no-no

Remove the player from the game that didn't hustle back. Which Josh finally did last night.

Run a "five" guard lineup!

That was a key ploy of the old Arkansas 40 minutes of hell. They would continually wear us out with that move. For some reason, we never quite caught on to it; much like now.

The point is to not only be aware of it and take steps to stop it, but to try it yourself on the other end when the opponent makes a basket.

That is, if you truly want to play fast vs lip service

Stop posing and get your @$$ back on defense. Period.

Crawford did that last night after two three pointers. Save that for when you need it, not against USF.

Watched Austin and Shaq yesterday-jogging back on D a lot. Also, when JJ or Geron penetrates for layup the secondary back man has to get his butt back on D.

There were some slow get backs in the Houston game.

Not systemic.

Stop ignoring the opponent who is behind you. Hustle play. No excuse, especially for senior back court.
