Only five guys are new recruits. The others are current commits who want to meet the new coaching staff. The 3-star TE who is committed to Florida is an interesting one though. Will be interesting to see what happens after this week and next. I'm sure more recruits will be added to next week's schedule. I am surprised that Drew doesn't have a handle on exactly how many scholarships are being used and how many are available. Not that I'm complaining, I know it's been a crazy two weeks for him.

The number of football scholarships available is tricky since they don't have to officially come to campus until the Fall(even though Summer is the norm). A lots of things can happen up until then - transfers, guys quitting football, etc. In many cases you don't know exact numbers until Summer. We had 15 guys recognized as Srs at the last game, but, as Drew has said, some may not have been on scholarship. If only those guys leave and they were all on scholly we would probably have only those 15 available. If some leave, some Feb 5 signees don't qualify, some of the 15 srs are not on scholly, etc - these all affect that number. I suspect we'll oversign and let things sort themselves out...

It is probably best that we get as many visiting as we can over the next 2 weekends. We may pick up a few new commits & may lose 1 or 2.

I think it's a fair assumption that we've got approx. 25 +/- available w/ some already being spoken for by the JUCO's enrolled/current commits being honored. There might be a few players on roster that are "advised" by the new staff that they should look elsewhere after staff evaluations in the coming weeks which would free up more slots.

Looks like he is getting to work quickly. Glad to see all those commits still with interest and most haven't opened up there recruiting. That means the previous staff did a good job selling the whole package (the school, city, etc) besides just playing football for those specific coaches.

On another topic, anybody see anything about who he has hired, I don't expect a full staff yet, but if we could get a list of who so far is on board that would be good.

Everybody off his JSU staff but Grass (OC) and Ogle (RBs, I think).

New positions aren't confirmed, but here was who was at the press conference.

Defensive coordinator Duwan Walker, recruiting coordinator Jody Wright, offensive line coach Mike Bennefield, inside linebackers coach Chuck Dunn, defensive line coach David Reeves, outside linebackers coach Daric Riley, cornerbacks coach Blake Shrader, receivers coach Cornelius Williams and operations director Tyler Cook. http://annistonstar.com/bookmark/24434875/article-UAB

I think the only open position may be the OC.
That is assuming that none of the other coaches would be moved up to OC.
Even that assumption may be wrong.
It is possible that one of the assistants is familiar with the offense & could oversee it.

That might be a pretty big jump though for one of the assistants from around $40,000 to over $150,000 or so.

For a coach who got 100 phone calls the first time his name was mentioned, I'll assume every position is filled at this point. I don't see why we can't a better idea of how many slots we have open. Drew should know by now. He should know who is still on the team by now. Who else transfered?

Most of our recruits have no other choice if they want to play D1-A football.

Several of the prospects have a few CUSA/Sun Belt/MAC type offers, but I know what you mean. Drew had a hard time getting the scholarship information, because nobody from the previous staff would give him any (McGee blocked him on twitter....even made his sidekicks do the same). Clark will be a lot more open with him, as he was at Jacksonville.

I just watched his highlights.......kid moves very well. Like you said, probably needs to fill out a little.

He had a hard time trusting people, and he didn't trust Drew too much either......which made no sense at all. At least Coach Clark is media friendly, and welcomes the exposure.

I have no specific information to prove my theory, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if McGee was untrusting towards Drew because of his history following Troy. We all know that McGee was not shy about mentioning Troy with respect to recruiting battles of which he considered some of their tactics less than admirable. Maybe McGee was overly suspicious or paranoid that Drew's Troy ties, particularly when it came to anything on the recruiting front.

Nope. I'm with cb. Drew didn't kiss his ass.
