A typical year, not a lot of Blue Chippers.

I'm surprised by Antonio Woods, UC must have backed off on recruiting him. He is extremely athletic... Penn is great academically.

Started to say there wasn't any elite talent in the area but Sam Hubbard wound up as a 5 star and #29 overall player in the country per Scout.

I think it's a down year for talent in SW Ohio. Hubbard as a 5-star is absolutely laughable. He's a good player but no way he is an elite type of prospect. Typical Scout overrating Ohio players.

Well duh, because he's going to o$u :)

Billy is right. Let Hubbard switch his commitment to UC and he'll drop to a 3 star. Scout and Rivals recruit rankings are a joke.

I was kinda thinking that it was more of a down year also, just seemed that way. There are still a few guys getting possible offers to MAC schools and the like so the list will change a little.

Some solid OL in this class. I would've taken Burns, LaRubbio and Bezney at UC in a heartbeat.

Was really hoping Burns would shake loose after Strong went to TX. That kid is a real talent.

Hubbard is only a 3 star on rivals and espn, where does Scout get off making him a 5 star prospect?

Who was that 4-5 star Texas recruit out of Lakota.....was a LB? Maybe 4 years ago?

I think you're referring to Jordan Hicks? He and Trey DePriest were probably the biggest disappointments I've seen in a while.

DePriest was third in tackles for Alabama. Not too bad if you ask me.

He probably means disappointed at not signing with Cincy.

That's exactly what I meant. There was a strong contingent of people who believed DePriest was going to end up staying home, and when we had Schloemer and Alex Smith committed I was holind out hope that they could somehow convince their teammate to stay close to home.

Was thinking of Hicks, looks like had injuries at Texas.

Yeah, kid had an extremely promising future. Just one of those unlucky breaks.

This is what always comes to mind with Hicks: http://deadspin.com/5975859/texas-reinstates-two-football-players-linked-to-alleged-sexual-assault-police-say-theyre-still-investigating

RE: local area football commits. - Marcus - 01-23-2014 02:52 PM

Hicks has pretty much been a bust, yes he's had some injuries but also some definite off-field issues down there. I was always surprised at how highly he was rated in high school. That whole Lakota West class ended up being a major disappointment. Alex Smith I believe was thrown out of UK for all kinds of problems (no clue what ended up happening to him). Schloemer was the lowest rated of the 3 and ended up having the best career. He probably hasn't live up to his billing coming out of HS either but has at least stayed out of trouble and contributed some at UC.

RE: local area football commits. - Mark Wolfram - 01-23-2014 03:48 PM

Hicks I believe was Texas's leading tackler before he went down with his injury this year.
