BE OOC recap - stever20 - 12-22-2013 11:53 PM

well, with 1 week to go, BE is shaping up...

1 Villanova 11-0. Unless they totally crater, they are a lock. IF they beat the Cuse, they could be if they go 16-2 or something like that be a factor for a #1 seed.
2 Providence 10-2 I think they really need the UMass game on Saturday. Still, with injuries/suspensions, don't have the depth(bench plays 3rd fewest minutes in cbb this year!
3 Creighton 9-2. Solid right now. Looks like Wooden Legacy was a fluke. will be interesting to see Marquette/Creighton on 12/31!
4 Butler 9-2. How are they doing this? Easily the surprise of the conference. Still you wonder as we get into conference play, how do they fare?
5 Xavier 9-3. Like them a lot. Love they play a real OOC schedule. should be a major factor
6 St John's 8-3. On the other hand- their OOC schedule outside 2 games nothing. Very easily could cost them
7 Georgetown 7-3. Going to have a lot more pressure than normal if they get off to a slow start in conference. A team that I'm afraid coul go either way.
8 Seton Hall 8-4. Had a lot of bad losses. Going to be a RPI killer
9 DePaul 7-5 not many bad losses, just losses. Going to be a RPI killer.
10 Marquette 7-5. No bad losses, but outside of GW- no wins of any quality at all. Needs to do a lot in conference to just have a shot. Could be close to .500 mid January- will be interesting to see how they respond.

what do you all think? Let's get this board rolling again like we used to have it.....

Great stuff brah...

RE: BE OOC recap - hoops22 - 12-23-2013 01:13 AM

It's been kind of a mixed bag. RPI wise, we've been behind the BIG 12 and B1G all season, been flip flopping with the PAC12 between 3 and 4, and been ahead of the ACC and SEC all season long. The bottom half of those leagues drop them down, whereas the bottom half of ours has a few teams that do play decent ball. I'm guessing we'll get four in the tournament, although if we get five, which would be half the league, that wouldn't be bad. The league needs to get stronger at the top, one ranked team isn't enough, although I think someone else will assert themselves in league play and and become a regular in the top 20. But the real test will come at tournament time. We can't have 5 make it, with 4 making a quick exit. At least two need to be around the second weekend, to help the perception of the league. Finally, a Villanova win at Syracuse next weekend would be wonderful for more reasons than space allows me to list here.

I think it wouldn't be easy to get 5 in. Especially if there's a dominant Villanova team who goes like 16-2 or something like that. I just dont see a 2nd team able to make 2nd weekend of the NCAA tourney though- I think one major problem is with how poor we've done OOC(we have almost as many losses this year as last)- our 2nd team would be a 6-7 seed, meaning they're goign to see a real good team 2nd round(not to mention a hard 1st round game to boot).

RE: BE OOC recap - stever20 - 12-23-2013 08:59 AM

Here's the rpi right now:
1 Nova 7
2 Butler 32
3 Creighton 43
4 St John's 50
5 Georgetown 53
6 Xavier 65
7 Providence 86
8 Marquette 112
9 DePaul 132
10 Seton Hall 139

Have to say it's jarring to see Marquette so low right now. And, Providence being so low has to be a surprise for PC fans who had thought they were doing pretty well this year. On the flip side, think folks have to be surprised at Georgetown being relatively speaking so high with their poor record so far.

RE: BE OOC recap - Melky Cabrera - 12-24-2013 09:29 PM

Can't agree with Marquette ranked so low. They have the 16 point win over GW and while they've lost 5 games they were all strong teams and with the exception of Ohio State, they played them all tough. Marquette may not be top 25, but their SOS is and that will help them in the long run.

RE: BE OOC recap - stever20 - 12-27-2013 06:35 PM

Marquette is fighting an uphill battle. Just to get to 19 wins, which is generally bare minimum they would need assuming win over Samford- they would need 11 wins. That's doable for sure, but leaves almost no room for error. And that's just to literally get on the bubble. They have 1 even remotely good win right now- and none of their other wins will get even close to a good win. It's fine to schedule tough but if you don't win- you won't get much credit for scheduling like that.

well looking at this now...
Villanova- looks like they're winning the conference
Providence- amazing story.
Creighton- great 1st year in conference.
Butler- the disappointment this year. huge questions going forward
Xavier- can they close the deal?
St John's- just about right
Georgetown- the jekyll and hyde team for sure.
Seton Hall- if they didn't have the bad losses, they could have been dangerous
DePaul- another classic DePaul year
Marquette- huge disappointment this year.

Even though did this based on OOC- could have gotten 1,6,7,8,9 perfect. Creighton 1 slot off, PC and Xavier 2 slots off. Really only off big time on Butler/Marquette.
