ESPN.com mentions UAB/USM attendance - Montgomery Blazer - 12-03-2013 04:33 PM

• Attendance at the Southern Miss-UAB game. The game started at 1 p.m. Eastern at Legion Field, which meant you'd miss the 3:30 kickoff of the Bama-Auburn game. Plus, Southern Miss and UAB entered the game with a combined 2-20 record.

According to Patrick Magee of the Biloxi Sun Herald, the actual attendance at the game was about half of the announced "crowd" of 6,383.

Mentions USM loss a second time:

• Southern Mississippi and Hawaii. Both teams waited until the final full week of the season to avoid taking the 2013 O-fer. Southern Miss beat UAB 62-27, while Hawaii defeated Army 49-42.

And I loved this note I got from the Southern Miss sports information department on Sunday: The win for Southern Miss snapped a four-game losing streak to UAB.

Yes, it did. It also snapped a 23-game losing streak, the longest in the FBS.

Two Birmingham-area players -- true freshman quarterback Nick Mullens and sophomore defensive back Kalan Reed -- had big games against hometown UAB.

Told Southern Miss coach Todd Monken to reporters: "There are no drugs or alcohol that replaces that feeling of we did something together." You know, BMOC is just going to let that softball pitch drop in for a strike and move on.

I was rather enjoying forgetting about our abysmal football season... thanks... Here's to a successful basketball season to continue that.

Hopefully next year will be better and we won't have so many injuries.

Our attendance issues are purely because the product on the field sucked. I hope that gets better because I'm not sure how much longer our fan base can take winning 1 or 2 games a season. We had our conference home games at the end of the season when we were already not going to make a bowl game. Why did we not try and move the Southern Miss game off of the same day as the iron bowl again? A lot of you guys even said that attendance was going to be bad this year because of those things.

The Juco recruiting from the previous regime did not help our depth and we had 15 seniors on this last years team. Of those some were walkons and not necessarily starters. Injuries did not help either.

As I said on Twitter; mcgee promoted a lot of guys from grad students from other schools without that much experience. The staff is too young. I think Mcgee will look hard at bringing in a new defensive coordinator and some other positions. I still have a little faith in Mcgee to turn things around. I feel like we were too young and injured through the year to win 6+ games but we could have won 2 or 3 other games this year with a little luck. Rice, Troy, MTSU were all winnable games in the 4th quarter where we just lost it.

those 3 games were lost by coach inexperience how to handle the clock and play calling
I just hope that he learn from it
The game against FIU was very close to be lost because of his inability of managing the clock at the end of the first half

You have a point and you may be right, but I doubt if many experienced assistants at the caliber of schools that we would like to get coaches from are lining up to come to UAB.

I think we gave up a touchdown on the opponent's last possession of the half in damn near every game.

Momentum killer.

Consistency. It was so frustrating.
