Social conservatives what is your take on Kratom? - WPDAWG08 - 10-31-2013 02:40 PM Mitragyna speciosa (kratom, kratum, krathom, Thai: กระท่อม)[2] is a tropical deciduous and evergreen tree in the coffee family (Rubiaceae) native to Southeast Asia in the Indochina and Malesia floristic regions. Its leaves are used for medicinal properties. It is psychoactive, and leaves are chewed to uplift mood and to treat health problems.[3] M. speciosa is indigenous to Thailand and, despite growing naturally in the country, has been outlawed for 70 years and was originally banned because it was reducing the Thai government's tax revenue from opium distribution.[3] Kratom behaves as a μ-opioid receptor agonist like morphine[4] and is used in the management of chronic pain, as well as recreationally.[5] However, its effects differ significantly from traditional opiates such as morphine. Kratom use is not detected by typical drug screening tests, but its metabolites can be detected by more specialized testing.[6][7] The pharmacological effects of kratom on humans, including its efficacy and safety, are not well-studied.[4] Kratom alone, when chewed or boiled into a tea, is indeed quite harmless according to the available literature. While additional research is needed, it has been said[3] that the criminalization of kratom is unfounded and is based on economic control and disinformation. There are very few records available showing negative health or social consequences from kratom consumption, but despite this fact kratom is becoming increasingly subject to actions of law enforcement in numerous countries. The criminalization of kratom has created numerous barriers for research. In Thailand, the eradication campaigns have made it especially difficult for academics and researchers to adequately research the medicinal benefits of kratom. The Transnational Institute has concluded that the criminalization of kratom is unnecessary, problematic and counter-productive, and has summarily recommended that kratom be decriminalized. It also concluded that the evidence showing the health benefits of kratom, especially in treating drug and alcohol dependence, should serve as an important point to consider.[3] To be noted a big Pharma company is in the late stages of developing an anti depressant using the same two main metabolites in kratom. So it is understandable why they would want to get it banned. Also it hurts sales on terrible opiate addiction maintenance drugs like suboxone and methadone. I personally used it to ween off suboxone which is a terrible terrible minding ******* drug. I do not use kratom anymore b/c it tastes like balls and it does not get you high like narcotics do. Here is a propaganda piece done by the media basically calling it worse than heroin. 100 bucks says the *** dumpster in this video is addicted to c0ck way worse than kratom, but I digress you decide... RE: Social conservatives what is your take on Kratom? - WPDAWG08 - 10-31-2013 04:32 PM A politician in LA recently tried to han kratom but didnt b/c over 1000 pain patients signed a petition. RE: Social conservatives what is your take on Kratom? - oklalittledixie - 10-31-2013 04:52 PM What's interesting is how so many of these naturally occuring drugs are part of the evergreen family. THC is basically sap. I could basically care less whether or not this **** is banned but I do like the option to use it in the case that I get injured. I will never have a pain pill prescribed to me again. Do you have any experience with it. I honestly have never heard of it. What does it do? I did a little reading that basically states it is a legal substance and has been used in Asia for thousands of years. Small doses act as a stimulant and pain killer. Large doses act like a sedative. Have you actually tried it? THC is basically sap. Yeah. They sell it everywhere here. I would say it gives you a mild feeling of wellness and makes you a bit more talkative with definite pain killing qualities. Caffeine gives me a worse buzz than it and the best part is there is no come down with kratom. The powder itself tastes like drinking dirt so I guess that is one thing that keeps me from doing it much. Like anything if you go overboard I think it can have some withdrawl type effects/constipation. Overall it is a natural herb that is pretty harmless but by its very nature it is stepping all over the toes of the pharmaceutical industry. So I am guessing it will be banned. Id say go to your local shop and give it a try it truly cant hurt anything but your taste buds. I'm not sure it's something I would want, but I am always interested in herbal alternatives to pharmaceuticals. I think there is a lot to the argument that the drug companies would rather keep us sick so they can sell us drugs to mask the disease. Does it upset your stomach? I have a fear of vomiting. |
