my thoughts
1. colorado is the biggest snub

2. this is the start of a new era for unc (the era of consistently being no better than the 3rd best team in the ACC)

3. this would of been an epic clash of the titans had LV entered the ACC this year

4. we will have a very early #1 vs #2 game this year against two teams that are neck & neck for the top spot

RE: BB preseason polls - stever20 - 10-31-2013 01:57 PM

The ACC is gonna be very interesting the next 5-10 years when 4 HOF coaches leave their posts.

just unreal to me how high VCU is.

RE: BB preseason polls - TexanMark - 10-31-2013 02:07 PM

Syracuse is under-ranked...Coach Boeheim is waxing poetic about the team. Unusual for him to be this positive...the late summer trip to Canada for most of the players really sped up their development.

So road games are good? Hmm. Didn't think Boeheim ever voluntarily played outside the state of NY...

Although at least he is going to a neutral location this year for a few games.

Whatever, bro. You'll soon see. We are down a little now, but that won't last long.

RE: BB preseason polls - stever20 - 10-31-2013 02:20 PM

he may be happier because at least this year- it's an easier conference than he had before...

instead of playing Louisville, Georgetown, Marquette, Cincy, Villanova(all tourney teams) and UConn(likely tourney team were it not for probation)- along with NIT teams St John's Providence
he gets- UNC, Duke, Maryland, Virginia, NC State- and a rebuilding Miami team.

Also, he's going to be going up against teams that haven't had to play against his zone.

RE: BB preseason polls - bigblueblindness - 10-31-2013 02:56 PM

UK has Michigan State and Louisville this year, so it should be clear by the New Year who should be number 1.

The entire western hemisphere is a home game for Syracuse basketball.

CJ Fair is the main reason for his optimism.

Duke and North Carolina have championship caliber talent. Kind of a duh.
Notre Dame and Virginia will both be excellent, Sweet 16 caliber.
Boston College, Maryland, and Pitt will be Tourney caliber teams.

NC State has some talent if they can put it together. Larranaga is an excellent coach, I expect Miami to be solid, but nowhere near as good as this past season's team. They and Florida State are likely Bubble/NIT teams.

Notre Dame and Pitt are a wash...

Louisville/Marquette/UConn/Georgetown/Cincy/UConn vs Duke/UNC/UVA/BC/Maryland. I don't think that's particularly close right now.

i think unc had too much of an easy run in the acc and now they are in a REAL bb conference and are in for a bit of a shock

true-

however we still play sju & nova every year now

a top b10 opponent, gtown & lv will be on the schedule every year starting next season.

overall our SOS went up

I actually don't think so. Just looking last year, Syracuse had the toughest conference SOS in the country. #5 overall SOS. Last year- they got Louisville 2x, Georgetown 2x, Villanova 2x, and Pitt 2x- all 8 NCAA tourney games. Then 3 more games with Pitt, Georgetown, and Louisville in the conference tourney.

this year- they do get Duke 2x, Pitt 2x, but also Miami 2x and BC 2x. It's a pretty big difference. OOC is tough with Indiana, St John's, and Nova- but last year they did get San Diego St and Temple OOC as tourney teams.

So at least for this year- it's going to be an easier conference schedule. It'll be interesting to see if that impacts Syracuse at all later in the season.

you are focusing too much on this year and not enough on next year

next year we get......

a top b10 team
gtown
nova
sju

im not sure about the acc schedule but lets just say they will

switch pitt 2x for LV 2x
switch duke 2x for unc 2x

i think the smart play for the acc would make unc-duke lv-cuse twice a year rivals. duke-cuse play 2x unc-lv 2x in odd years, duke-lv, unc-cuse play 2x in even years. (do you get what im saying)

imo we took a huge upgrade with the ooc and a slight downgrade with the acc schedule

RE: BB preseason polls - stever20 - 10-31-2013 11:33 PM

thing is for at least 1 year, it will be easier.

Next year, I don't know how they'll change the schedule. got a lot of factions in the old ACC they have to keep happy playing 2x a year.

looking at Maryland- they play Virginia, Va Tech, Florida St, and Pittsburgh 2x. They will have to modify that somewhat for Louisville I'd guess.

RE: BB preseason polls - OrangeCrush22 - 10-31-2013 11:36 PM

Currently every ACC team is locked into two opponents they play twice every season, and the rest rotate. Here are the four new member's perma-rivals.

Syracuse has Boston College and Pitt
Louisville will have Pitt and Virginia
Pitt has Louisville and Syracuse
Notre Dame has Boston College and Georgia Tech

That's in a lot of ways going to be easier for at least 3 of those quite frankly. Pittsburgh definitely with the hardest of the 4. If they have a year with UNC or Duke 2x as well- that's brutal.

1. wow pitt got the shaft

2. im so sick of this conference dodging BS, if you kill rivalries in conf realignment at least have the decency to make some good new ones.
in FB UNL-PSU needs to be turned into a major rivalry
in BB LV-cuse needs to play H&H every year

that would be really smart for the conferences money wise.....but no they are just gonna try to keep these teams as high in the rankings as possible.

its kinda like banning smoking in bars. every bar owner wants to do it, however no one wants to go first
