Since Dayton doesn't seem to get much love from people around here, just for fun I thought I would look up the last time they played various members of the Big East, including teams that have left, but were members when Dayton played them. More than a few surprises.
Dayton 70 Louisville 65 2007 In fact Dayton has beaten them three straight Won in 2006 and in 2000
Dayton 80 Pitt 55 25 point blowout against a 6th ranked Pitt team in 2007 season
Dayton 89 Marquette 75 Double digit win in 2008
Dayton 80 UConn 66 2000 Maui Invitational. Dayton also won their only other meeting while UConn was in the Big East in the 80's
Dayton 68 WVU 60 In 2009 NCAA tournament
Dayton 78 Notre Dame 63 last time they played was 1995
Dayton 68 Providence 55 ancient history back in 84/85, but the last time they played
Dayton over Syracuse even more ancient, back in the mid 70's but the last time they played
More recently, they split two with Seton Hall... I believe they have beaten Cinci three of the last four althought the most recent was a Cinci blowout... Have split the last two with Villanova in the early 2000's... Lost an Elite Eight game to Georgetown in 1984. And I couldn't find the last time they played St Johns, although I know they have played in the past.
They have won their last four against the ACC, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, BC, and Wake Forest. All since the 2009 season. And finally, they beat Kentucky the last time they played them back in the 1999/2000 season.
Looks to me when they've gotten their chance to play the big boys, they've handled themselves pretty well.

so we're using games in the mid 80's and 70's to say why the Big East should take Dayton? Wow that's incredible. But I guess 2 NCAA wins in 29 years will do that to you.

Calm down cowboy. I said it was just for fun to look and see how they did in their most recent contests against BE teams. All I'm pointing out is they've beaten a lot of the people turning their nose up at them today, when they were last given the chance.

When I wrote the original post, I wasn't saying Dayton should be added to the BE, just that they had an impressive record in their recent contests against member schools. Some people, particularly from Xavier, seemed offended by the whole premise. That got me wondering, how has Dayton fared against X in their recent meetings? I looked it up, and I'm sure you guys know what's coming. Five consecutive years of Dayton beating Xavier.
2009 Dayton 71 Xavier 58... first of many double digit wins to come
2010 Dayton 90 Xavier 65... 25 point *****-slap at UD arena
2011 Dayton 68 Xavier 67... No 1 seed Xavier knocked out of A10 tournament in Atlantic City
2012 Dayton 87 Xavier 72... 15 point beat down

Xavier also had wins, mostly close ones, in the same period. But when you've lost five straight years, by the scores listed above, I think I'd put a lid on the trash talking, instead of acting like Dayton doesn't belong anywhere near the same court as you guys.

Fact: UD does not belong in the same sentence as us. Let alone the same court. So dayton has beaten us 5 years in a row at their building or in the A10 tournament? That's pretty cool...Oh wait we've beaten them 32 years in a row. You read that correctly. 32 years in a row.
We say it all the time but literally when X comes to to town to play Dayton it is their SUPERBOWL. The whole town gets up for it. And good for them. You know what Xavier's superbowl is? Whoever we play in March. Because we play in March. A lot. Unlike UD.
The last time a UD player was drafted in the NBA the current seniors weren't even born.
The last time UD made it to the 2nd weekend of the NCAA tournament the current seniors weren't even born.
I don't care if they've beaten us at home the last 5 years. What's the overall series look like the last 30 years? We win by a mile.
We've had more NCAA victories in the last 5 years than they've had in the last 30. We dominated the A10. They got dominated.
I'm happy they got left out and I'm happy to have Butler as our new rivals. A team and fanbase that I can respect because they've got results on the court since I've been born.
When you beat us in Cincinnati let me know. We'll be having you guys as a buy game pretty soon :)

X has found a way every year to succeed, butler and creighton are going to have a harder time doing it year in and year out. I would have taken VCU over both

Does VCU have top 5 attendance? Has VCU had the success that Butler has had? Remember that Stevens was still at Butler when the decision was made. Who is to say Smart will be at VCU much longer? Yes, VCU fans will say he's there for life. Butler fans also said that about Stevens too.
The 7 members certainly thought differently.

The Big East took who they believed were the best fits and teams.
Obviously, those of us who fans of teams in lesser leagues are going to have a case why we're better than the chosen schools.

I think where VCU gets in is 11/12. There is such a huge performance gap between VCU and any of the other schools being considered that the schools would look like provincial idiots if they don't take VCU just because they're public. VCU blows Dayton and Richmond away. Heck, they beat SLU even, but that's a moot point because SLU blows Dayton and Richmond away as well and should get in if it happens anytime soon.
