But that is the thing, they are working. The fact is that the government is expending resources in the form of payroll to close open spaces that would otherwise not need any resources expended. The hypocrisy of our government is appalling, and the conduct of it's agencies shows that our agencies need to have their funding cut, so that they may learn to operate with common sense and efficiency. We're paying Park Rangers to keep people out of parks that are simply open spaces, like the WW2 memorial and to turn away hikers on the Appalachian Trail. Since we can pay police to man barricades to keep people off of the Colonial Parkway, we can pay them to do their normal job and leave the road open.

Stunt? Your Republicans have talked about shutting down the government for years now. It's a fact. A vast majority of them are on record as being giddy and happy about this.

And a little history for you. Clinton had a 6 point lead on Dole when the last shut down happened. After it was over, he was up 16 points.
