Is it fair to say - theSabanator20 - 09-02-2013 10:15 PM

That the bottom of the SEC is better than the bottom of the Big12 and Pac12 and even the AAC, ACC, and B1G? I think it is. There is proof now.

10-4 on opening weekend. Not bad... No FCS losses, and only 2 FCS opponents were played. Losses to Clemson, Oklahoma State, and WKU OOC. Pretty sure all 3 of those teams are picked to win their conference.

Dude Oklahoma State is picked to win the Big 12? And I'm not so sure about WKU winning the Sun Belt when you have ASU.

Not much to go by in the way of head-to-head comparisons. Auburn beat Wazzu by 7 points, at Auburn, and if Auburn is better than the bottom of their division this year then it's not an apples-to-apples comparison between P12 North and SEC West anyway.

As for the teams that are supposed to finish last in the P12 South and SEC East, Colorado won their neutral-site game vs. Colorado State and looked to be much improved. Kentucky didn't look good in losing to Western Kentucky. If CU and UK played this week and you had to put your own money on the game, you'd bet on CU.

At any rate, a conference's reputation for depth is probably based on their 3rd through 6th or 7th best teams, and that's where the other conferences need to catch up to the SEC in perception.

Yeah, Okie Lite was the highest ranked Big12 team in the preseason polls, and are the favorites to many people to win it. Clemson is the favorite to win the ACC. WKU was picked by some to win the SunBelt because of Petrino, and they have built a consistent winning program there.

I can agree with those SEC statements. They are far above the rest. The only possibly challenger to the top of the conf is OSU.

In case you didn't know it, Oklahoma State was the preseason pick to win the Big XII, according to the voting among Big XII coaches... 07-coffee3

Hey man, what the heck is wrong with WVU this year? Were they just fiddlefarting around with W&M or were they being serious? I was shocked to say the least...

WVU actually didn't play that badly. W&M's 2 TDs came because of long pass completions to Tre McBride, who'll be playing on Sundays in the not too distant future. Their FG was the result of Millard's fumble in WVU territory...

But the offense had 9 players making their debut on the field for WVU, and they still gained over 400 yards. I also get the feeling that Holgorsen is playing it close to the vest because the Oklahoma game is so early in the season...

Comparing LOSSES to determine which conference/team is best is totally backwards, but since you SEC guys have always tried to make that argument, let's compare:

SEC - 3 losses - Clemson, Okie St, and W Ky
ACC - 3 losses - Alabama*, S Carolina*, Penn St

Hard to argue that the SEC's losses are better, isn't it? So by SEC logic, the ACC is the strongest football conference!

* technically, these losses don't even count, because when an SEC team loses to another SEC team, we know that loss means nothing.

VT has not had a good QB for about 3 years and seemingly left half their starters in the Montgomery County Hospital. I think they did pretty well considering all that. I also don't think we really found out anything about South Carolina. Spurrier just doesn't lose to UNC.
