I think I'm gonna barf!! - RiceDad - 09-02-2013 07:37 PM

I am slowly watching the game in bits and pieces, since I watched the actual game from the worst seats I have ever sat in for a football game, but that's OK. Now watching the game on ESPN, I can hardly stand the BS from the announcers about this arrogant little ****. Okay, so he's good, but, his attitude is soooooo obnoxious. Not in keeping with what I think of as "Aggie tradition."

I guess that's a matter of perspective, but as the decades go by, I have gotten to respect Aggies more. Nevertheless, they have a pronounced sense of entitlement that is embodied by JSS. That sense may be different for prior generations.

I think I saw him in a little bit of save the wheels mode Saturday--ie he does not want to damage the goods as he knows he has defecated too close to the house and needs to go next year. I was on his side at first , but in East Texas vernacular, he is bad stupid. In East Texas Coaching vernacular I thought of him as a "straight running fool"-- someone who just doesnt know better and cant help it. But I think he has evolved into the lowest of low from a coaches aspect--a "turd". I am appalled that Ags do not think of football as a leadership internship. The words of my Aggie daughter, who loves A&M, says it all " I would much rather hang around the Rice Football player kind of guys than ours."

'Sounds like you raised your daughter the right way. I would like to think that most girls might have the same attitude, but from what I can recall from when I was that age, I was dissappointed in what I observed of most young women even then. And that was in the '70's. Now that I am an old guy, I can see what my dad tried to teach me; most women need a good leader to keep them from making dumb life decisions. An older guy I knew back then tried to get me going with his daughter, but I had too much going on to consider it. Through the magic of open internet records I now know why he was working on me. She has had a rough life and she was the one who made it that way, although she did have a lot of help from several jerks along the way.

Is this a serious statement?

Yeah, I tried like heck to talk my daughter out of going to Rice and Harvard Law School, but she wouldn't listen. Wonder what will become of her after I am gone and can't give her advice anymore?

RE: I think I'm gonna barf!! - Hambone10 - 09-03-2013 02:57 PM

I'll cut Weatherford some slack and note that he is talking about the 70's... Ten years before "Tootsie" and the height of Archie Bunker's popularity.... PLUS the fact that he doesn't imply that it needs to be a man.... just that he is one and can still be a good leader to a woman. I like to think I've been a good leader to my daughter, though clearly not her only leader and she is MUCH smarter and stronger than I.

Where are you getting the game replay at? My parents satellite dish was out this weekend so they missed the game. I had to go to a bar to watch it.

I think Sumlin is trying to control the brat-he was sent to the bench after getting an unnecessary 15 yard penalty. Times have changed. I wonder what Bear Bryant or Gene Stallings would have done with him, but players had more respect for coaches back then.

I think the point of many is that Bryant or Stallings would never have allowed it to get to this point. Questions are starting to head toward Sumlin on how things could have gotten to the point that 8 players (nearly 10% of the team) was suspended for at least half of the game. That's pretty bad in that context.

RE: I think I'm gonna barf!! - ETx Owl - 09-03-2013 08:38 PM

Just like a Texas High School Superintendent whose authority is negated by the power of the football coach and the program, this cost A&M a very popular President. Dr. Loftin checked it to them a month or so ago. He saw it coming and either did not have stomach for it , or did not want to go through the crapola of those hell bent on a National Championship at all costs and those old Ags who do not relish this kind f behavior

I think he implied it, but I agree that he didn't say it.

Bryant and Stallings would have worked them so hard in the spring and summer that all the troublemakers would have quit before the season started. Stallings is on the Board of Regents so he is probably telling Sumlin what he thinks about the situation.

None of them could've changed who his parents or grandparents were. IMHO, he's steeped in a multi-generational sense that they can do anything without concern of consequences.

If you have any access to ESPN3, I think the game is still in their replay queue.

It was replayed last night, very late.

Sounds like Sumlin is loosing control of this team. After Alabama destroys them, we will see what happens to all these bad apples.
