RE: OHIO FB: Sold out for the season? - NIU007 - 09-05-2013 09:13 AM

NIU has about 1000 tickets left for the West side for our home opener on the 21st. It's band day (and family day) and a Saturday game surprisingly enough, so the East side should be mostly full, if not completely full.

Are you still whining? Take it to Bobcat attack.com
I view it as everyone whining about me giving a taste of their own medicine....

Says the man who has more often called for the expultion of a conference member than anyone else..

And I will continue to do so in appropriate places for such discussion. Please leave town with your Ohio hate.

If you don't want to discuss a MAC team filling a stadium, there are plenty of threads here to discuss the alternative.

Ah, Optimist...a lone voice of reason crying out in a wilderness of ignorance and intolerance, the only man who cares enough to save the MAC. We appreciate all you do.

I don't see even one thread discussing not selling tickets. I sure don't see plenty of them.

I'm also baffled that someone thinks that one school selling 20,000 tickets to a college football game is a topic worth bragging about. It is such a minimal accomplishment in today's college football world, and one that happens every week pretty much in this conference by a couple of teams. Seems like a topic for a team board that may interest that team's fans. The conference averages about 16-17k. 20k is not that big a deal. This is the MAC. Our winning teams almost always avg. around 20k.

We aren't selling 20k to this game.....we are looking to sell 26,000 like we did last year for the home opener against New Mexico State.

BTW, we are looking to push our numbers eventually much higher than even that...

Unfortunately, "looking" to do something and actually doing it are not the same thing. Until you start breaking ground on a new stadium, it's just your weird little fantasy. Might as well say you are "looking" to add unicorns and rainbows to your stadium experience.

Every college program that doesn't sell out every game is hoping to increase attendance. It's not news that Ohio U is also. But congratulations on being one of very many!

Plans have been drafted for 35,000 seats and we're waiting until the IPF has been built to pull the trigger.

The only thing Kent State has planned and accomplished is downsizing capacity over the past 15 years.

So Ohio isn't like Kent State and other MAC programs that have downsized or right sized their stadiums....we are actually looking to go bigger.

I think with the projected amount of students in the stands of a projected stadium expansion brings us a projected sellout for that season whenever the projected finishing date is considering we don't even know when the projected groundbreaking ceremony is. :/

Two can play at this game. This was planned for Miami:

It was from the late 60's/early 70's, when we wanted to replace Miami Field and go big time with football. Of course, nothing came out of it. Our program was the class of the MAC back then and it looked like the sky was the limit for Redskin football, but does that matter now? No, all of these plans were nice back then and are a curious piece of history now, but until the money is in place and the construction starts, it's nothing but talk.

If it ends up happening for you guys, good for you, but I wouldn't celebrate yet. I don't think many Montreal Expos fans are happy now because they had some conceptual drawings for a new stadium.

Dear Love and Honor,
Eastern played the University of Tampa down there in 1968, and Tampa's stadium was almost an exact replica of what you just put up for Miami. It is now the stadium for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The University of Tampa dropped football with the coming of pro football down there. Too bad, because they had some very good teams.

RE: OHIO FB: Sold out for the season? - Kittonhead - 09-05-2013 02:43 PM

Back in the late 60's Ohio also had plans of a 70,000 seat stadium with the idea of replacing Northwestern in the B1G. It never happened as was probably a good thing as it would have been way too big.

Not looking at the drawings of the past but talking today.......Ohio fans are regularly discussing expansion from anywhere between 35,000 and 50,000 seats. Most think Ohio can eventually get attendance up into the mid 30k range with an expanded facility.

Very true, reminds me of the Liberty Bowl Stadium as well.

So if you're not right-sizing but going bigger, that means bigger is not right which means the expansion idea is stupid and you are acknowledging that?

They are right sizing because they have no potential of getting any fans.

Bowling Green is a perfect example of this as the program right sized their stadium down to 23k a few years ago.

Ohio is now at 22,000 students in Athens up from 14,000 in the 80's and is looking to go bigger not smaller to accommodate a larger student population and alumni base.

Peden has 21,000 actual seats, after that its standing room only capacity. Last year Ohio averaged close to 24,000 for its Saturday home games (115% capacity) and 21,800 for the season.

Many Ohio fans want Peden to be the largest stadium in the MAC with 35,000 or 40,000 to match the exceptional size of the Convo. I seriously doubt going to 35k is part of the conversation at Bowling Green.
