I don't believe so - we may have discussed that there are folks out there with that opinion, certainly, but I'm not sure I ever espoused either one.

Your nose is growing, amigo.

Not anymore than yours did when you claimed we were top 10 in attendance the year before Cal arrived. 05-stirthepot

I looked at the wrong year, pally. However, I just posted a correction. Meanwhile, HoopDreams and I have had a years old debate about Kirk throwing the Detroit game. He is very militant regarding the subject. Now move along.

3601 believes that if you bring up any subject matter, then you are instantly espousing a devout belief in said subject matter.

He is a very difficult humanoid to converse with.

What I did say at the time is that the AG Hickman Ewing certainly had his suspicions that DK threw basketball games while at Memphis State, one of them being the Detroit game. You just have to Google the articles to know that much.

I have always stated that the AG also had such beliefs.

Do you think the AG at the time had an #agenda?

You said that there is NO DOUBT that Kirk threw that game. When I tried to offer a plausible explaination about how such an upset could happen you said there was NO DOUBT that Kirk threw that game.

Are you now saying that you don't believe that?

The Tigers were on tv more, had more access to bowl games, had more media recognition... all incredible jumps forward in the football program!! Tommy West was great for the Program!!! (using the same logic you use with cal)

And only social rejects use hashtags on anything other than Twitter. It just makes the message board/facebook user look stupid.

I thought the facility things all happened in the last couple of years which by the logic you are putting forth would mean Larry deserves the credit. DeAngelo and winning (which coach west had a lot to do with) brought in the crowds. Conference realignment and a new AD had more to do with facilities than anything Tommy said that day. All Tommy did was make himself look like a fool which I hated to see. He had a really nice run here and I still thank him for it.

Hey, I guess Coach Porter deserves even more credit!!!
And I am sure DeAngelo recruited himself. Good thing he came here and played all 22 positions. What would we have done without him. Oh yeah, still go to our first bowl in 3 decades even not counting the years he was here.
But, nowhere in that post did I mention facilities.
Of course, cal had the Grizz come here and built the FEF by himself. Clever marketing of the program because playing in the Pyramid just wasn't up to his standards.

I actually think Coach West tried to alert people to what was really happening to our program. Most believed that cal actually meant "help football" and that he just never tried to take advantage of the success in recruiting.

My goodness.

How about this...and then some of you can move on...

Program was in bad shape in the late 1990s and hiring Narcissist was a good move.

While it took a half decade, he then got the program really rolling again, even better records than the early 1980s teams, a near national title and a recruiting class to beat all recruiting classes. He was paid very well for that and people were very please.

Fans knew there were bigger jobs than Memphis...like Indiana and Kentucky.

Kentucky came calling and offered him the job. Something no reasonable Memphis fan did not understand. He took the job, something no reasonable Memphis fan did not understand.

When, in addition to taking the job, we THEN found out we were headed for probation, and then the stellar recruiting class fell apart and lo and behold 3 of those kids ended up at Kentucky? Fair enough that ending sullied things for a great many people who absent that...likely would have been quite supportive of our ex-coach.

Moving on...

If I picked a side, it would be with the AG who was investigating him.

And if he didn't continually take shots at Memphis after he left, I would've been fine with that summary. But he did and I am not.

Run, rabbit, run. You once dismissed that idea that it was nothing more than an upset. Do you still dismiss that as a possibility.

Yes, and so did the Attorney General at the time.

Maybe you should write Hickman Ewing a letter.

So Hickman Ewing said there was a 0% chance that the Detroit game was nothting more than an upset? I never read that.
