NBR, but I wish it was! - Dpickren - 06-20-2013 11:15 AM

South Alabama

Nice, this is what we need at the south end of our OCS!

+1 to "Pandit" for his comment at the bottom of the article. His observation is quite accurate.

Is it just a coincidence that those schools with their own BOTs have the best and newest facilities? (I'm including Bama in that group)

If we only had that when I was down there

Don't we have a state of the art weight room?

We need the stadium.

That's one on a longer than just two items list of "state of the art" football facilities. We don't need a waterfall, but there are things we don't have (posters have mentioned a few) that our competitors do have.

Impressive! It's going to be difficult to recruit against that.

They're going to get killed for a few years, yet.

I'm not too worried about losing kids to them for now.

Troy - upgrading stadium
USA - new football facility
Jacksonville State - relatively new stadium; possible move to FBS
Alabama State - new stadium
UAB - Legion Field

We need to get moving. As time goes on its gonna become more and more difficult to recruit the better players. If USA gets an OCS before us things could really get difficult.

(the league you are in helps trump some of the other shortcomings)

With the influx of new industries into the Mobile area (steel and aircraft among others), USA may be located by the 2020 census in the largest populated metroarea** in Alabama with an effect of (right now) unknown ramifications. As far as I can recall, the state has NEVER recruited a single industry - of any size - for the Jeffco area. Due in part to anti-Jeffco state antagonism, the area has atrophied by losing almost every major business, manufacturing or banking, since 1980 while in 1999 the state legislature stripped the county of its occupational tax (= to 1/4 of annual revenue) resulting in its current financial disaster. When your major employer - UAB - is paying most of its daily employees slightly above minimal wages (<$10/hr), you are not going to compete well with steel and aircraft producers. It has been printed that the 4,000 daily employees at USX earn higher total income than all UAB employees who are not medical professionals.

**Mobile has a unified city/county government that Jeffco/B'ham can't seem to accomplish.
