Baseball at ASun tournament - ETSUfan1 - 05-22-2013 12:45 PM

A wild game today as the Bucs win in the bottom of the 11th 4-3 on a 2 RBI single by Alex Reynolds. Next game tomorrow at 5pm.

Glad we won but I noticed we started Doane. So I'm guessing we'll be without our best pitcher against Mercer?

Stetson gets on my last nerves, super glad we got the W. I actually watched the video feed off and on at work. Pretty ****** quality, but was a fairly exciting game.

With Doane out, I'm not too confident about the game against Mercer today. But who knows, our guys have a lot of fight in them

Same here. Just my two cents but I think it would have made more sense to take a chance against Stetson and save Doane for this game.

the coach addressed that during the interview with WXSM before the game yesterday. He said he thought about saving Doane, but getting into that winners bracket was the most important thing, you had to win the first game. That really a tough call either way if you ask me

Mercer started their number 1 pitcher in their opening game against Upstate.

Good decision by Skole to stick with Doane. If you save him for Mercer then get beat by Stetson in the 1st round, you look like an idiot. If you get beat tonight, there's a good chance you can win tomorrow with your #3 starter and have Doane against Mercer on Saturday...

Nesselt held mercer to 4 hits in the rubber game 2 weeks ago. Two of those were solo shots. If he holds them to 2 runs to to tonight he did his job. We have to hit.

Mercer/ETSU got pushed to Friday morning. Looking forward to the game, will be exciting! As mentioned before, you have to start your #1 in game 1... losing the first game is just out of the question and nearly impossible to recover from.

Thanks for the explanation. I'll admit the only baseball I follow is ETSU baseball, so I was a little confused when I saw that Doane pitched the first game, but this explanation and the ones above all make sense.

With the weather continuing to push the Mercer game back, any chance Skole brings Doane back? You have to think it's going through his head...

RE: Baseball at ASun tournament - TheShadow - 05-24-2013 08:47 AM

I think you go with Nesselt since he had a decent outing against Mercer the last time. Hope the bats wake up a bit and you get the W. THEN you would have Doane for a potential game three to *eliminate* Mercer and go to the Championship round.

Even if you lose with Nesselt, you can still come back and have Doane for either game 3 or 4.

4-4 bottom 8.

RE: Baseball at ASun tournament - Bucster - 05-24-2013 02:17 PM

Going to extra innings.

Great work by ETSU. 7-4 in the 10th. I see you guys talking about Doane coming back. I don't think that's a possibility for the entire tournament.

RE: Baseball at ASun tournament - MercerFan - 05-24-2013 02:38 PM

Well, I guess you might see him for 1-2 innings if you made the championship. IMO that's the max.

How bout those BUCS? Great Win!

RE: Baseball at ASun tournament - GoBucsGo - 05-24-2013 04:01 PM

Huge win! Had some nice hitting with RISP. Nesselt pitched pretty well considering who we played. Freeman was solid too. And we beat a ranked team. Great job.

Whatever happens at this point, I dont see how anyone could objectively have anything negative to say about the team's performance this year. We are doing far better than expected this year. For the first time ever, ive actually paid attention to the baseball team.

If the team is in a position to win the championship with one game on Sunday, Doane absolutely starts on short rest. He's by far the best pitcher on the staff.

Rice will likely start tomorrow, which will be great if Upstate can pull of the improbable tonight, because they haven't faced him this year.
