"Any conference we've been in has not made UConn who we are," Manuel said.
I think that at least for men's basketball, that is a silly comment. Competing in the Big East certainly helped UConn mightily in terms of challenging for national titles.

In order to get the votes to make the "New Division" for college football work, Universities like UConn may have to be pulled up. I haven't run the voting tallies or anything like that but should it end up being close, that could end up spurring some late realignment in this overall process.

I agree but I am placing my chips on the bet line that the Majors have the leverage necessary. With realignment seemingly stabilizing, that means the next step can be taken.

I just domt thinl they will break away....I do see a new Division in Football with maybe the AAC/MWC being something like "Junior Partners".
I have a hard time with the conservative nature of College Presidents leaving an organization with many long time friendships to start up a Brand New Organization with all the headaches involved.

The amount of work involved would be unimaginable. The Path of Least Resistance for these Presidents is to use leverage for what they want within the NCAA rather than taking on the monumental task of creating a new governing body.

Exactly, and as I've said before, both parties get what they want.
The P5 get their new FB subdivision and the NCAA gets to keep their Tournament (Cinderella is NOTHING without rich Prince Charming and his ball)
There is absolutely no reason beyond the wishful thinking if its members for MWC or AAC to be included in the P5s new subdivision

Yes, what is good for the AAC or MWC will not be on the agenda of the P5 if they decide to move in this direction.

I agree but I'll add any school in FBS should be retained. They need to trim the fat in the 300+ Division I schools in olympic sports. In doing that get the tourney back to an even 64 teams. Some of these schools have no business being Div I in shoddy high school gyms.

I don't think forming a new governing body is their first choice. I could easily see them going to the NAIA and telling them they want to form a new division with these rules. Give it to us and we will jump. My guess is the NAIA would jump so fast they would say yes before the question was finished. Play the NCAA against the NAIA to get what they want.

Yup--not out of the realm another league is formed..and back at 6 Power Leagues
I could see the best of rest forming a national league of 16-18 teams across the US. Hmmm heard this before.

Right now the Power 5 have the edge at 65-64. Unless if the Sun Belt invites BYU, Army, or UMass their next addition will make it 65-65.

Even if those numbers are equal the power in those numbers is nowhere close. I think many overstate how badly the contract leagues actually want to break away, but if they really do want to those numbers won't stop them.
