New and Leaving Players - toley2345 - 04-24-2013 10:27 AM

Any new rumors on potential incoming freshman, or guys that are transferring out? When I watched the long would game Coach McGeehan said that there were two-three scholarships available we should only have one (Darren White leaving). Let me know if you have heard anything.

White is officially done. He wil not receive a medical. He has signed with an agent so even if he wanted to come back he can't.

RE: New and Leaving Players - OrangeCamel - 04-25-2013 07:55 AM

Yeah, it's confirmed that White won't get that redshirt.

I've heard the team likes McGeehan. We shall see if there are any defections....

That is great the team like Coach McGeehan. The Fayobserver had an article on the new assistants http://blogs.fayobserver.com/garbagetime/April-2013/Campbell-basketball-coach-Kevin-McGeehan-adds-thre. I like the title three under 30. I watched all of these guys play in the A-10. All these guys showed great leadership on their team. I think these guys are steals as far as assistants go. But I could be wrong!

RE: New and Leaving Players - Statman101 - 04-25-2013 09:11 AM

So, Campbell adds Peter Thomas, who was a Director of Ops, Dan Geriot, who was a VOLUNTEER assistant, and Chris Clark, who was an associate head coach at St. Francis.

I don't know about steals and I could be wrong, but Campbell hired guys it could afford. Thomas has never recruited or coached on the floor at the collegiate level. He was a Director of Ops. This doesn't mean he isn't a good coach, but he has never done it at any level.

Dan Geriot wasn't even getting paid a salary hence the term "volunteer" assistant. He worked for two years at Princeton.

Chris Clark comes with a great title, Associate Head Coach, but he was at St. Francis who had won only 11 games in two years and 30 games in his four. He had to make a move in my mind or risk getting the axe next year with the entire staff. He stays ahead of the game with this move.

Now again I am not saying these guys aren't good coaches because they all obviously bring something to the table. I am just pointing out some of the things that make them less "steals" and more a normal a staff of assistants. In my mind, there are no Bobby Kennen's, Darryl LeBarrie's, or Charles Baker's in this group (Guys who have a plethora of experience or guys who are on their way up and out).

Again though I could be wrong and this is strictly just my opinion. I don't claim to know any of them personally. This is based strictly off of information that is readily available.

You bring up some good points. I agree as I pointed out I could be totally wrong. As players these guys seemed to have very good basketball IQ's. Now this is based from just watching them play. They were very unselfish, fundamentally sound and they just seemed to think the game out. They also came from good coaches that have had a lot of success. As you can imagine I love A-10 basketball and it might have been the fan jumping out in me. I think all these men will have success at teaching the game to are players. What I am curious about is can they bring in players that can help us when championships.

Antonio Kalpic will be graduating in May with his Bachelor's. The last time, I talked with him, he was focused on graduating. I believe he would have another season of eligibility. I'm not sure if he's decided to finish his basketball career or not.

Can anyone tell me where former coach Laing is going, or has gone?

RE: New and Leaving Players - fightingcamel2594 - 04-28-2013 05:02 PM

Rumor has it that Freeman and Hooker are leaving as well, but it hasn't been confirmed yet.

I would seriously question this "rumor".05-stirthepot My son is close to several BB players who say they have connected great with the new staff and that Trey is all in. Amazing how a rumor on a board can be printed and then believed.

RE: New and Leaving Players - Statman101 - 04-30-2013 01:37 PM

It is strictly a rumor. I hear all are staying. I guess that is always subject to change before the fall semester however.

Hey guys was on this website. Don't know how accurate it is, but it seems to have a pretty decent method of showing who is leaving who is going. I am sure you guys have been to this site. But I thought it was pretty cool.

I am sure you guys have been to this site.

I've never seen this site. Thanks for posting, toley!

(The following is based on this site, twitter, and google)..... Like toley says, not sure how accurate!

Looks like the three offered by the previous staff have committed to non D-I schools (D-II and JC)....

Reynolds to Chipola JC after offers from CU, UGa, Memphis, Tex-Arlington
Muhammad to D-II Shepherd after offers from CU, St Francis PA
The espanol twitter tweets for Rodriguez look like he's going to a prep school for the Air Force???? after offers from CU, LSU, Winthrop, UTEP, Marist, Furman

Looking at the two offered recently by the McGeehan staff.....

Both are point guards.

Ray only offered by CU thusfar.
Mosely has offers by CU, Dartmouth, Wagner, Buffalo, Richmond; interest from Princeton, Holy Cross, Northwestern, Towson, Qunnipiac, UVa, Stanford, Lehigh, FAU

RE: New and Leaving Players - toley2345 - 05-02-2013 11:01 AM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOg_Qz0SQyE Here is a clip from Ray. Don't know much about Mosely from all of the offers he has gotten seems to be pretty good and from what I recall St. Anthony High school is usually pretty good. I was upset that were not getting Reynolds next year but it was it is. If we can sign a point guard and a Post player for next year I would be happy with that.

Hooker is transferring. He's already left campus to return home for the summer.

Tough loss for the program. That's all I can really say.

RE: New and Leaving Players - CamelCrazie - 05-02-2013 08:41 PM

How is he leaving? If he transfers he has to sit out a year and he will be a senior next year?

If he transfers down to Division II, then he doesn't have to sit out. Only if you go to a Division I school.

And great find, Toley!
