o.t. Congrats Yale for the NCAA Hockey Championship 2013 - giesing - 04-14-2013 05:46 AM

It's good to see, that in a sports that does matter very much in certain regions of the US a team from a smaller conference won the title. Also congrats for all participating teams in the Frozen Four: Quinnipiac, UM Lowell and St. Cloud State.
Hockey will a

BTW: If they really want, the Ivies could be imhoa real east coast force in sports like football and basketball.

Congrats to our old in-state rival, Yale.

Yale walked away from the FB and BB series with UConn because the games weren't competitive. Maybe a hockey rivalry will be viable with UConn upgrading its program. It would be nice for the two schools to play each other in at least one sport.

Great to see programs that prize academics (Quinnipac & Yale) playing for a national title. Amazing that Yale won as Quinnipac had defeated them 3 times this year.

Both teams had 5 on 3 power plays and could not cash in. What's amazing for me is that from what I heard, the first three Quinnipiac/Yale matchups weren't even close.

If I'm not mistaken, this Yale team now has the lowest winning percentage for a national champion.

Quinnipiac prizes academics? The ECAC fans denigrate the Q all the time in that department. Holy Cross almost got the Q's slot for that reason, otherwise the Q would have been stuck in the low scholarship conference Atlantic Hockey.

Yale didn't do it the easy way either, with their NCAA wins over:

Minnesota (tied for WCHA regular season champ)
North Dakota (second after Michigan in all-time championships with 7)
UMass-Lowell (Hockey East champion)
Quinnipiac (Rated #1 for most of year, ECAC champion)

Hockey teams that are heavily senior laden seem to do best in the playoffs. Since Ivy League schools rarely get the blue-chip talent (they are often gone after sophomore or junior years), hockey is a sport that an Ivy can do well in. Would be great for Penn to restore hockey. After all, Philadelphia is hosting the Frozen Four next year.
