FGCU pulls away for the 78-68 victory. #15 takes out #2! Good stuff.

Lots of twitter references to early UAB teams...

Brett Comer is an exceptional point guard, not physically talented, but he makes up for that with his court sense, his exceptional ability to take care of the ball, to pass well, and most of all, his desire.

You forgot his haircut.

I did see him high five a teammate definitely going down next round.

The most awesomest play of the game was this fast break alley oop from Comer to Fieler.

I was yelling a word that rhymes with quit when I saw that play.

Oddly enough I'm in DC for work, people are crushed including a work colleague that is a graduate of Georgetown's sports management program. I'm happy to see a program like this pull of such a big win much like UAB basketball did in its infancy.

Yes, of course, his haircut, but most obvious, by the way he carries himself, his burning desire, his emotion. You can see it in his eyes.

I looked up Comers season statistics and in 34 games, he averaged 26 minutes per game, and dished out 213 assists, which is about six and a half assists per game. His assist to turnover ratio was 2-1. Against Georgetown, he played 33 minutes, and had 10 assists and only two turnovers.

Like I said, his statistics, overall, are not outstanding, and he is one of those players who does not have the physical ability to dunk the ball, but he understands the game of pushing the ball up court, of penetrating through the defense and dishing the ball to the open man. All of that, I noticed, long before the alley oop pass-dunk.

But most of all, you could see that "burning desire in his eyes", his swagger of confidence, which carries over to the rest of his team. Basketball is a game of "smarts", even moreso than a game of physical ability.

Oh yes, San Diego State will probably kick their tails, but I will certainly be pulling for the underdogs, and if they do lose, I will pick another underdog team to pull for.

Finally, my Moms favorite team, the Gulf Coast State College womens team(29-5), once again made it all the way to the NJCAA Final Four, and, lost to number one seeded and defending NJCAA National Champion, Trinity Valley Community College(34-1), by a score of 75-71, last night.

This Sunday is my Moms birthday. She will be 85. I spoke with her, yesterday morning, and her plans for her birthday is to spend the day on the beach, in Panama City, where she lives.

You can tell all of that from 1 game? Hyperbole at it's best.

FGC beat a very good Miami team, by 12 points, back in November. Other than that, just looking at final scores, no way would I have guessed FGC was better than Georgetown.

In fact, they have some terrible losses to East Tennessee State, Lipscomb (twice), Maine, and Stetson. ETSU and Lipscomb won 10 and 12 games respectively this season.
