They flowed out 10,000 years ago, you know, at the start of global warming. RE: Snow in New England - Machiavelli - 03-19-2013 02:03 PM I actually thought about Torch today going over an assignment. I've avoided teaching evolution dealing with mankind. Always too controversial of a subject for me to dip my toes into and I didn't want the controversy with the local religious community, but it's now on the new standards so I have to teach Man's origin. Mainly how we think modern homo-sapiens came about. Well there was quite the scandal with the Piltdown man. Scientists were so convinced that the common ancestor of man had to have a large brain with an ape like body they ignored fossil evidence of the Taung man. They dismissed it out of hand for decades because the brain was too small. It was more ape like with human features than human like with ape features. Scientists were so desperate for (mainly British scientists) the "missing link" they forged a fossil. Look up Piltdown Man. It's quite the caper. Well that's that. Just thought of you going over it. RE: Snow in New England - GoApps70 - 03-19-2013 02:06 PM Are you saying someone is trying to tell us something?
RE: Snow in New England - GoApps70 - 03-19-2013 02:08 PM Got to go with the flow!

Well there was quite the scandal with the Piltdown man. Scientists were so convinced that the common ancestor of man had to have a large brain with an ape like body they ignored fossil evidence of the Taung man. Scientists were so desperate for (mainly British scientists) the "missing link" they forged a fossil. Look up Piltdown Man. It's quite the caper. Yes, I'm familiar with it. Evolutionists have forged/exaggerated a great deal of work to support their position: embryonic recapitulation, pepper moths, piltdown man... That should be cause for concern. BTW, I think teaching what evolutionists believe can be a great opportunity. There's a big difference between saying "Evolutionists say X is true," and saying "X is true b/c it's evolution (science)." Then you meet the standards requirements. Whatever. Stupid requirements. But, what you really have is a chance to teach the students how to have a civil, logical discourse...and that's the exciting opportunity. B/c you will have kids champing at the bit to tell you they think evolution is wrong. And you have other kids just as keen to tell them they're wrong. So instead of having a bunch of people yelling and arguing, you teach the theory and its current shortcomings offer the opportunity for students to present additional pros and cons of their positions. Gotta be based on scientific principles. No "Bible says X" by itself. Everyone listens and at least then hears that the other side does have some reasons for its beliefs. The idea of teaching people how to have a civil discourse is far more beneficial than evolutionary theory, which will make no difference in 99.99% of people's lives even if they find compelling evidence. RE: Snow in New England - Machiavelli - 03-19-2013 02:22 PM Darn it Torch. I corrected some grammatical issues and you copied and pasted before my review. Anyways, we should be able to have civil discussions even with AGW. You know how I feel and I know how you feel. I'm going to make a point in being less personally divisive when you post about it. I still think you are wrong in your assessment but having a contrarian thought with evidence shouldn't be shunned. |
