Snapper - the_blazerman - 01-29-2013 02:57 PM

I finally got around to talking to Ryan Densmore's father at work today.

As was mentioned previously by someone, Ryan was not on the team last year. He decided to focus on academics & is in line to graduate next year & work towards medical school.

With Taylor Klein graduating, the commit that we received by that guy that specializes in snapping will come in handy.

Not sure who else is on the team that could be a snapper.

Maybe one of the linemen have practiced snapping or did it in high school.

That's a pretty unique skill. I hope the new is the answer, not just anyone. Bad snaps on punts and FG's can be UGLY and never come at a good time.

Yep. I guess someone was backing him up last year, I just wasn't aware that it wasn't Ryan.

Maybe one of our newer board members can remind us who was backing up Taylor.

Maybe that can be Coach Hasse's trivia question next week.

This is not what I thought this thread would be about when I read the title.

WTF?

Ok, who backed up Klein last year? That guy. I hope he's the answer.

RE: Snapper - the_blazerman - 01-29-2013 04:03 PM

We are going to crap a brick when the backup kicker is the snapper.

RE: Snapper - DragonLair - 01-29-2013 04:08 PM

Sam Accursio was the backup snapper last year. however i know that Nolen smith has been practicing for some time now

Dammit...got WAY too excited by the subject of this thread.

RE: Snapper - WesternBlazer - 01-29-2013 05:11 PM

He was gonna be a walkon. ULM may have offered him a scholly and he would be able to stay in his home state.

RE: Snapper - Uncle BLAZER - 01-29-2013 05:16 PM

Klein was also a walk on, I believe.

Well now that we are down to about 14 guys in the 2013 class, (counting grayshirts), I wonder if we could squeeze him into our 25 man limit ?

RE: Snapper - USAFBlazerFan - 01-29-2013 05:47 PM

Well, my 14 yo can snap a pretty mean long ball... Maybe we can throw 50 lbs on him and run him up there next year?

Here's some highlights from the MD 14U State championship game. However, they never once had to punt... So his long snaps were all shotguns at 7 yards. He's #30 on the green, black, and gold team.

Too late now. Plus, ULM is a lot hotter right now.

I'll duck and cover now.

Well, yes and no. It is a skill that's learned through practice and repetition, but lots of guys with decent athletic ability and hand-eye coordination can handle it, especially kick snaps. Punt snapping is a little more difficult but not rocket surgery, either.

Klein was only a walk on for one year.
