Indiana Athletics Rewarded for Their Patience - niu2222 - 01-28-2013 03:20 PM

Indiana bball record in Creans first year 6-25 and 1-17 in conference. In his second yr 10-21 and 4-14 in conference. In his third yr 12-20 and 3-15 in conference. In his fourth yr 27-9 and 11-7 in conference. This yr they are a top 5 program. This is the kind of progress NIU is likely to have. I am not saying, we are going to be a top 5 program. I am just saying for the hundredth time, this is most likely are future. I attended every game of the Patton era and have been at every home game since Monty got here. Monty is a real coach, who loves coaching and knows what he is doing!

It was easier to see with Crean though because of the players he was bringing it.

For the level we are at, Nader and Springs were very very good gets for NIU bball. At Indiana, they had a little better year two than year three. I cant even imagine, what people would do or say here, if that happened with Monty.

Indiana is a historically successful basketball program from one of the most prominent basketball states in the country. NIU, not so much...

That's the point, IU is a historically successful program, if they can have patience there then of course we should. Four yrs is a longtime for IU'S fanbase to wait.

Indy is nationally competitive in hoops, soccer & swimming. They ought to stop wasting their time and $ and drop football. A few of their players could play for NIU

The problem sits with the fact IU has a much greater margin for error on coaching hires because the school will always pull kids who can ball....NIU has to nail it on the coaching hire because the margin for error is so small with the scrap heap of player's they have to select from...

Creen was feeling a lot heat at the end of this third year with a conference record of 3-15. A lot of the heavy hitters at IU were pushing for Brad Stevens at that time. Remember Creen was dancing with the devil the first two years in hiring a AAU coach's son and being stirred a couple of players. There is no doubt Creen can recruit but can he coach that talent. We will find out this year.

Stevens totally out coached Creen last month. Who can forget the Butler walk on beating IU top recruiting class at home in OT. I hope MM will use the Stevens model of coaching up his players because the talent is not there. I just wish MM can get the top recruiting class in the MAC.

It doesn't really change your point, but the IU-Butler game was played in Indianapolis, not at IU. I think Stevens is probably the best coach in the country, and he does a great job of teaching and managing in-game situations. I think Montgomery has NIU headed in the right direction but he does need to find a couple kids that are consistent shooters.

If, Monty has only 3 conference wins at the end of next year, he should feel the heat also. I don't see that happening though. They have 2 conference wins now with 10 MAC games left this year.
