2013 schedule, How will this work? - OwlFamily - 01-18-2013 02:05 PM

Ok,

So there is enough smoke on this deal that it appears MTSU and FAU are in for 2013. Im sure divisions are already in place.

With the SBC not having divisions I’m unfamiliar with how it works out for scheduleing?

Do we play everyone in our division once?
Is there a permanent cross over against the other division?
Will FAU and MTSU be elligble for the championship this year? (I would imagine so)

I guess I want to know how you folks feel this year will work out schedule wise? This must be a nightmare to work out.

I believe the NCAA requires you to play everyone in your division if you have a title game.
There were no permanent cross division rivals in the past.

The meetings next week are so the ADs can sit down and figure it all out. The divisions haven't been set yet either.

..think the criterium is 12 teams...I could be wrong

You will play everyone in your division once and then two teams from the other division (8 games).

Recently, even though there are no divisions in basketball, we've played all football division opponents home and home on the hardwood and played all the schools from the opposite football division once (16 games). We'll be up to 16 BBall teams in '13-'14, so I'd imagine we'll still home and home with the divisional teams, but then just play 4 of the 8 teams from the other division.

Commish talks a little about it here --> http://blog.mysanantonio.com/utsa/2013/01/c-usa-still-expects-to-field-14-in-football-in-2013/

"Banowsky said he hopes to produce a C-USA football schedule with defined Western and Eastern divisions by the end of the month.

UTSA will be in the Western Division, he said, before stopping short of sorting out the two seven-team divisions.

Banowsky said UTSA would play six conference games within its division and two against the East."

In the past, cross-divisional games have been played on a rotating basis. Not sure if that continues now or if something different will be put in place, at least for the next couple of years.

Looks like it at the moment... I'm just wondering how they're going to choose the opponents from the opposite divisions? Random draw?

Anything other than this makes no sense for 2013. ODU just plays 8 CUSA teams in 2014 right? As in, they will not technically be eligible for the title, so really 'adding' them to a division doesn't do anything. When ODU and Charlotte both come in 2015, USM would slide West if geography is still the deciding factor.

Tulsa was to play Southern Mississippi, ECU and Memphis this year before the changes, with only Memphis gone in 2013. I wonder if Tulsa will get both ECU and Southern Mississippi still, both would be nice TV games.

This looks likely at this point, with very good competitive balance in 2013. Same in 2014, since ECU and Tulane will come out of their respective divisions and we'll be at 12. 2015 will require one team to shift...likely USM.

At any rate...welcome aboard MTSU and FAU! Glad to have ya!

I'd rather see everybody play one game against every team and then figure it out from there. Let every team play one extra game against a conference foe already played at the end of the year. It would be nice if they could somehow schedule it to where the 8 games on the last day of the season all had a significant impact on standings. I don't know how hard that would be to work out though.(there would be 8 teams with 7 home games that would host, and just line up the top home team with the top away team and go all the way down that way?) I don't like the East/West thing in basketball.

Is that based on something you've heard or assumptions given past schedules?

RE: 2013 schedule, How will this work? - PirateNation - 01-18-2013 06:36 PM

My guess for ECU is Louisiana Tech at home and @ Tulsa.

It would be criminal not to have ECU vs. Southern Miss though.

RE: 2013 schedule, How will this work? - RonBurgundy - 01-18-2013 07:38 PM

Can't wait for the schedule to come out. Hoping we get a cross division away game with USM or UAB since that would be easiest to drive.

RE: 2013 schedule, How will this work? - blazerwkr - 01-18-2013 07:49 PM

To the OP, as others have said you play everyone in your division then have 2 crossover games for a total of 8 conference games. IIRC FAU would be taking what UCF's schedule would've been & MTSU would be taking what Mem would've had. The normal rotation of the past, not sure if it'll stay the same in the future, was that play every one in division alternating HnH every year & you'd play 2 teams in other division HnH dropping every 2 yrs to pick up another 2 teams for the same rotation period before dropping them to pick up the next 2
