Probably to make up the difference in travel cost for us. Travel to UNC is a lot easier than to Uconn.

True. But maybe all of college football just moves their schedules back 1 year, if the whole season is scrapped. A partial season would make things more difficult

Some clarification is needed since it's still April.
The AD probably saw the social media reaction and got ahead of it. This would be more concerning if UConn football was in a conference because it would signal that an entire conference might be cancelling football, which would mean probably all of FBS at minimum would be too. But UConn can cancel its season and with the exception of the schools that it was playing, nobody would be terribly affected.
But yes, while you can't make that call in August, you can't (shouldn't) make it in April.
On the other hand, it could mean that the president knows this is happening and the AD is trying to cover because he's the one that's going to be hit with questions and demands from schools on their various fall schedules, not to mention the Big East. Not that it would stop them, but at least make some sort of statement.
