I wish Idaho would just step down to the Big Sky already. That way we don't accidentally book two FCS teams in 2019.

That's easy. We just keep Idaho on the schedule and if the Vandals pull an 11th hour switch to FCS we get on the Red Phone to Buies Creek.

Campbell doesn't count as a bowl eligible win since they're non-scholarship.

Quote:The NCAA allows one victory per season over a Division I FCS (formerly I-AA) team to count toward an FBS team's bowl eligibility, so long as the FCS team has supplied financial aid for football averaging out to at least 56.7 full scholarships (90% of the limit of 63 allowed to FCS schools) over "a rolling two-year period" that can include the current season

I just don't like the uncertainty. If they're still FBS in 2019, fine. But if they drop down, I'd rather cut them loose and bring in an FCS school that isn't in a different time zone.

I'm sure they have a provision in the contract that requires them to be FBS. The good thing is, they are coming here next. So, at least it's not a case of where we scheduled a potential fcs team on the road.

They're coming here, so whether they're FBS or FCS by that point won't matter too much. Though I guess if the new stadium is up and running by then, it could be the first non-sellout in program history. Of course, that might be the case no matter what. And who knows? Maybe Idaho will be good again by 2019. It happened once this millennium!

But I can't see Idaho dropping to FCS. They either stay FBS or give up on football outright. They're not going to magically make money in a lower football classification.

If Idaho goes to FCS, we should keep that game and move the other FCS team to another year. IIRC, we're contracted to only pay them $125k in travel to come here (They paid that to us in 2013)

$125k is significantly less than the going FCS guarantee game rate ($300k - $500k)

Not bad. The next series that should be announced is a H/H starting in Norfolk in 2017. We already have two road games scheduled. Need an FBS OOC at home.

I will add that it's confusing why anyone would think VMI would be a draw. The last time we played them, the energy at Foreman was decidely flat compared to other state schools.

13, energy aside VMI is smart because they buy tickets and have a strong alumni network in the area. The energy thing is just who they are.

Any rumors on the 2017 schedule? Its a bit concerning that we don't have any home OOC games yet for that year. Looking ahead, that will likely be our best team ever and a chance to really have a coming out party on a national level. Bentley will be a junior, Lawry a senior and we'll have a lot of upperclassmen with experience who were recruited at the FBS level. Maybe thats why nobody wants to play us at home that year. Would love to see a P5 at home that year, or ECU.

NSU, VMI and VT (most of the org ACC for that matter) all have a history of playing at Foreman Field. Perhaps the University could brand the scheduling as part of the Foreman fair well tour.

Minium says "big big announcement" coming today

RE: ODU Football Future OOC Schedules - HeadsetGuy - 08-07-2015 08:57 AM

what ever the announcement is, I doubt it is that St Francis or Morehead State is coming to town...you know typical JMU announcements...personally I think its 4 game home and home with UVa

This is exactly what I'm hoping for... It makes no sense that there hasn't been an agreement yet.

Ecu

RE: ODU Football Future OOC Schedules - odufansam - 08-07-2015 09:36 AM

UNC is coming to Norfolk in 2017

RE: ODU Football Future OOC Schedules - monarx - 08-07-2015 09:40 AM

Heck Yeah! Just what we need in 2017. We owe them some payback too. Love it. Bentley will be a Junior, Lawry a senior and we'll have some depth and size by then. I won't predict a win, but I will predict a much closer game. 247 says they will be the fourth P5 team to play here in 2017, but I think they're wrong. They'll be the second (after NC St) but are the fourth to have committed to play here. (Wake and VT being the other two)

GO MONARCHS!

RE: ODU Football Future OOC Schedules - paintedblue2 - 08-07-2015 09:46 AM

I wonder if this is a return game for 2013. I didn't see any other games vs. the 'heels mentioned.

RE: ODU Football Future OOC Schedules - Monarchist13 - 08-07-2015 09:48 AM

Fantastic! A chance at redemption. I think we will surprise them playing in the beginning of the season. I guess I'll pay more attention to their pending sanctions. They should (but probably won't) get hit hard.
