Maybe that is why UAB fans stress over it? Emphasis added. RE: Stadium Question(Don't shoot me) - Matrix - 12-12-2012 04:55 PM @AttallaTheHun: Regarding "Post #82", did I see the words "temporary reprieve?" How "temporary" is it going to be? How much longer is this place going to be crammed down our throats? 10 Years? 15? 20? More? Less? Guesstimate? RE: Stadium Question(Don't shoot me) - ATTALLABLAZE - 12-12-2012 05:31 PM Have no idea Matrix. They will get back to us. RE: Stadium Question(Don't shoot me) - UAB Band Dad - 12-12-2012 05:35 PM Don't hold your breath. RE: Stadium Question(Don't shoot me) - Blazerstadium - 12-12-2012 05:40 PM I can't see the city imploding LF until they have a replacement for it. The dome was suppose to be that, but if they are/were going to build it, the plan for it is smaller then what the bigger events bring to BHM. Last I had seen was for 40k+ seats. That is smaller then what the Magic City Classic and SWAC championship bring. I think if they were to build at that size they would lose those events. And if they don't make some changes at LF, they may lose it anyway. When the place becomes needed for the new interstate 22-65 / 20-59 intrechange throughway and tunnel, is when the BOT will let us build a stadium. Finis VIII will sign the paperwork for UAB to begin construction. In related news, the City of Birmingham, in order to get out of debt, has sold all of the land 6 inches under Birmingham to a consortium of businessmen led by Finis VII and Paul Bryant Jr. and they are now charging UAB rent by building weight. Gotta go with the "Band Dad" on this one, their word is about as useful as a can of "Instant Hair"...Something about this whole situation, this whole climate of inaction and denial does not set well with me, man. God, I hate politicians... Back to Lawson Field - the other LF! They probably don't have a radio booth. David Crane and the other guy will just do a conference call to Hot 107.7. As far as the "ghetto", last time I looked, Legion Field wasn't in Mountain Brook. I'm pretty sure you could hit a golf ball from the near side of BSC's campus and have it land in the Legion Field parking lot. We walked to our one game there in a big group. Safety in numbers. Every Sunday from around late February until mid-October Legion Field is packed for pick-up basketball games and honestly the best players play there. My grandparents live in the college hill area and as a kid a ran all over the neighborhood with my friends and you can still see kids doing the same thing today. During Magic City Classic people par blocks away from the stadium and walk back and forth to their cars all weekend. No one is the least bit worried about anything happening. Is this some sort of white thing? And if it is, do a select group of whites think that they'll be targeted just because they're white? Just an honest question. Hell I used to pay somebody $5 to park in their yard rather than deal with the idiots at Legion Field. Never felt threatened. Wasn't worried about my car. It's not a place I'd walk around at around 2 am by myself, but I've seen much worse in my life. Some people are scared of "dark neighborhoods". Those people will likely never change. RE: Stadium Question(Don't shoot me) - ATTALLABLAZE - 12-13-2012 10:28 AM I have hit golf balls at Legion Field in the parking lot at spring games and I could not hit the BSC campus. Just sayin' I have witnesses too. Actually it is Jefferson County government that is in bankruptcy and debt...not the City of Birmingham which has real good credit and a balanced budget. RE: Stadium Question(Don't shoot me) - ATTALLABLAZE - 12-13-2012 11:18 AM Correct about the City rsc3. LOL I don't even have a golf game for video. I agree, has nothing to do with color (for those of you who never met me, I'm black), opportunity perhaps. I've been threatened twice, once by someone that tried to shake me down for money to "watch" my car while parked on a public street, the second time, on the way to my car from a UAB game by someone just looking to start up some trouble, & I'll never forget the time someone brought a gun into that place and opened fire during a high school game, it was sheer terror on display that night, yet some people found it funny in the aftermath of the panic and chaos that ensued. The first occurrence was when things were really as bad as advertised over there, and I had a weapon on me to defend myself if need be, the second time, nothing, but a police officer happened to be standing not very far from where we were at the time, so nothing went down. And none of this has deterred me from coming to see the Blazers play, & although it's with a bit of a chip on my shoulder, for as long as they have to endure that miserable place, then so shall I. But, not very quietly, I might add. RE: Stadium Question(Don't shoot me) - Matrix - 12-13-2012 11:54 AM Anyone here ever went to a Falcons game when they were playing at Fulton County Stadium? Remember that neighborhood surrounding it? Makes Elyton look like Homewood. |
