I disagree.
The Callaway call was the absolutely correct call, and I said so before we got it.
I don't know whether Johnson should have gone for it or not, having not watched the game and not knowing what the tone of the game was at the time.

What I mean was it was a gutsy call. He could have kicked the extra point and gone to the next overtime. Instead, he decided to end the game, win or lose.

I would say had USM kicked the extra point & made it, they would have had the momentum at the time.
They would have forced UTEP to try and move the ball down the field to score.

I agree it was a gutsy call, but it was also a calculated one.
Our defense was gassed, and the prospect of stopping them looked pretty grim.
I generally love it when a coach sees a chance like that and takes it, whether it works or not.
Frankly, I think we're agreeing here, if I read you right. It's a genius/idiot call. You're genius if it works (Callaway, at least for that one play
) and an idiot if it doesn't (Johnson).

The difference being that in our case USM would not have 3 minutes to overcome the deficit.
UTEP would have had that.

I watched most of that game. Went out of the room for a moment when UTEP seized a 7 point lead late in the 4th. Came back later, saw where USM had scored but was one point short for some reason. You mean to tell me that this idiot had a chance to tie the game up with 3 minutes to go in regulation and chose to go for 2 instead? There is no way on this Earth they bring him back next season. That was just plain stupid!!!

I have a feeling there's going to be a "cleansing" of head football coaches in Conference USA after this season, & that the first two to go will be Mike Price of UTEP and Ellis "Callaway 2" Johnson. Derek Dooley and Joker Phillips are up for grabs now.

I'd be surprised if Jones is gone.
It would not surprise me if Johnson is gone. There's a weird streak in me that wonders if EJ didn't go for two just to make sure that the administration has to make a move. If he truly did not go out on the Senior ceremonies, then that is another nail. A really bizarre hire just keeps getting more bizarre.

Absolutely on all counts. Jones stays, IMO. Johnson is gone, Price, more than likely, gone as well. I also have the feeling that one of these schools is going to take a run at "Easy Rider" (petrino)...This would be a heckler's dream come true if that were to happen, especially if that heckler is a FALCONS fan!!!
