MLS stadium or Multipurpose Arena - Fitbud - 10-09-2012 10:21 AM

Does the bond include a multipurpose arena or an MLS stadium?

There has been talks in recent years about El Paso building a 20k stadium for concerts but now I'm hearing buzz about an MLS stadium which would likely have to be an outdoor arena.

So which one is it going to be?

What does it matter. You're going to find some reason to oppose either of them anyway.

I hope it is both, that way you and the rest of the dumb asses who oppose progress can go ape crazy

I do not oppose the arena. I want El Paso to get behind a new MLS arena. They aren't going to do it however if City Council doesn't tell the city that they plan to demolish the Civic Center to do it.

RE: MLS stadium or Multipurpose Arena - Pyrizzo - 10-10-2012 06:31 PM

Even if they told the city you'd still oppose it.

Thank you so much for the link. I used it to confirm that the multipurpose arena will likely replace the Abraham Chavez Theater.

At least one of us knows how to do research.

One of the most contentious projects on the city's November bond referendum also carries one of the biggest price tags -- an $180 million arena dubbed a "multipurpose performing arts and entertainment center" by the city.
"The multipurpose event center will be able to host events like concerts, family shows, ice events, religious gatherings, graduations, civic events, boxing, mixed martial arts, motorsports, basketball and other sporting tournaments," Deputy City Manager Bill Studer said.
He added that the specific location, size, amenities and parking plans of the arena would be determined in the planning and design phase if the voters approve the venue in November as part of the $473 million bond referendum.

So you do know how to link to an actual article.

Exactly.

Provide a link to that poll you have been huffing and puffing about.

Bond #1 has the Downtown Arena, Bond #2 has the MLS Stadium. Both cost 180M each. I am for the Downtown Arena and AAA Baseball, but the MLS Stadium is dumb since it would be cheaper to put grass in the SunBowl.

The sun bowl is to big of a stadium for a MLS team. Most MLS stadiums I believe are around 20k

Isn't the MLS stadium contingent on securing an MLS franchise? If so, not going to happen.

RE: MLS stadium or Multipurpose Arena - chuwy9 - 10-12-2012 09:57 AM

Besides I think the reason UTEP has gone with turf is the highg cost of maintaining the grass. Actually, has the SB ever had grass?

Like mistabinks said, MLS requires a stadium for the team or at least one where they can get a sweet a$$ rental deal.

The poll that I referenced was not an article but a poll that they have daily online. I don't know whether they archive that information or not so I simply posted the el paso times website.

It was at that website where I found all my other information. It's not my job however to do research for you.

Yet is was our job to prove to you that other cities were interested in buying the Padres franchise?

Is your ability to argue so weak that you can't even play by equal rules?

A long time ago, the south end used to be a grass hill.

Boise wanted the team. Also MLS did talk about El Paso being home to an existing Canadian team or expansion, on their own blog.
