Great chance to ask the coach questions in a small group setting and hear his take on how the team is developing. During the season he usually has some tapes showing various aspects of the game or things to look for from the teams. He usually diagrams some plays. He is a very engaging speaker and I would highly recommend it.

For us out-of-towners....would some good soul take detailed notes and post good detailed info for us to "chew" on.

It's a Blue Line club event. Typically, they're for BL'ers who purchase a certain level membership or above, but the first one of the season was opened up to all Blue Line members and guests. There was also an invitation with season ticket packages. RSVP's had to be made by Tuesday. If Drew was going to mention it, he should've done it in time for people to respond. I usually go and plan to go this evening. It's one of the few BL events I participate it - quite honestly, it's a really, really cliquey (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) group.

So, it's not open if you didn't RSVP? Today was the first I heard about it. Would have been nice for students to get this opportunity

Publicity doesn't seem to be a strong point for non-football athletic events at Western.

I agree. I hardly think that 1-2 students attending would be turned away. A group would be tough to accomodate in the smallish meeting space though.

If you're a student, why not organize a similar talk with coach specifically for the Lunatics?

Lots of information to digest from this evening, so here's my best shot at an overview before I forget:

Started off with tours of the locker room, training area and player lounge hosted by Balisy, DeKeyser, Walters and Witkowsi.

The CCHA championship rings are HUGE.

Andy went over some of the basics of their philosophy and style, how they're trying to create a championship culture, and what they look for in athletes. They want to be smarter, faster and stronger. Lines are designated by color rather than number and he changes the colors around so that a #1 line isn't apparent. He also went through each of the players and talked a little bit about them.

Coach Caldwell had a presentation which broke the game down into several components such as offensive, defensive and neutral zones, transition, etc. Each area had accompanying video clips that he used to highlight what they do and don't want to do in each situation.

It's a shame I didn't find out about it until today, would have been great to be there!

I don't recommend it as a social group but it does give you easy access to the coaching staff and players plus information about what is going on with the team.
