After Toledo beat Pittsburgh 35-31, UCONN decided to buy its way out of their 1 for 1 contract they had with Toledo. UCONN was scheduled to play at Toledo in 2004 with UT returning a trip to UCONN in 2005, but the Huskies got scared and knew that if Toledo could be Pittsburgh than they would get embarrassed on the field against Toledo.

Good Lord.......Show some guts for chryst sakes puppies!

This would've been a great matchup IMO. UConn is a great up and coming program who won 9 gms last year. Obviously, Toledo has been a solid team for quite some time. It's a shame the Huskies bailed out.

UConn is overrated but I really don't think they're scared of Toledo. No disrespect to the Rockets because they have proved they can hold it down against the big boys.

I think a more realistic scenario is that their entrance to the BE was accelarated because of ACC expansion, therefore scheduling opportunities changed. The two schools didn't have a common open date and UConn decided to buy out and schedule someone else.

This is not true. When UCONN backed out, Toledo only had 1 OOC game scheduled at Minnesota on September 4th. After UCONN informed us they would not be honoring the contract, we got a 1 for 1 with Temple. A month or so later we got Kansas to complete our OOC schedule. Also, until about a week ago the MAC had not finalized conference games so our schedule was pretty open.

UCONN originally said they were dropping all MAC teams from future schedules, however they are still playing vs Buffalo and at Western Michigan this fall. Finally, they were originally set to join the Big East in 2005 and we were scheduled to play them in 2005 also, but that game has been dropped as well.

There, we played you anyway and crushed you. With Gryb, it would have been a good game, but...

I think it's best to avoid MAC football matchups....they get no credit nationally so if you win, nobody cares and if you loose it's a big deal.....and the teams are pretty good so the odds of your team taking them lightly and loosing are very real.......

I have to agree...Akron, BUGS, Miami, Toledo, and NIU...even WMU now...are all good at home. If we bring them to the rent, no prob. But on the road...

I know Pitt didn't win any laurels when they lost to Ohio U. last year.
