2013-2016 NCAA Division I Conference Realignment Chart - Derby - 04-26-2012 08:35 AM

Here is a quick and dirty NCAA Division 1 chart on existing realignment changes (as I know them to be) for 2013-2016. Any Division II to Division II shifts and lower are not reflected. If you notice any mistakes, omissions, etc., please post and I'll correct and update the chart.

For TCU it should read leaving MWC/Big East...

I thought about that, but decided against it since they never played in the Big East.

Good thread, will you keep this list updated as more changes come, like North Texas and FIU to the C-USA?

What about the exit fee they paid, Derb?

RE: Conference Realignment Chart (NCAA Division 1) - stever20 - 04-26-2012 08:59 AM

I would put Pitt/Syr as 2013/14 for the year- as it's not known yet which year they're moving. That's NOT been settled as of yet.

Also I would split up Temple. 2012 for football, 2013 for basketball.

Have to chuckle at SDSU......

What conference are you in? "Well, we're in the Big East and Big West."

Boy, that's kind of oxymoronic isn't it?

Before anybody can say sour grapes from and ECU fan, just trying to find a little humor, that is all.

Good point. I'll work on that.

Temple should be shown leaving MAC for football

North Dakota left the Great West in Football and Basketball - has never been in the Summit. Both programs now in the Big Sky.

Not sure you care, but UC-Davis and Cal Poly also left Great West for Big Sky in football.

One more note: in 2012, South Dakota left Great West football for the MVFC. South Dakota was already in the Summit for 2011.

Congratulations on also being correct of North Dakota's logo: it is still the Sioux (after a statewide petition to rescind a law that rescinded the nickname, which had previously been reinstated by the legislature). A statewide vote is coming up in June.

There are only three different lawsuits currently ongoing, one of which is a federal case where the Spirit Lake Sioux are sueing the NCAA for discrimation.

I'm only showing FCS to FBS upgrades. FCS to FCS are not shown.

I see on the Temple one - they are leaving in two different years - fun!

Is North Dakota's departure from the Great West effective for this coming season (2012)? If so, doesn't that leave the GW with only 5? Then HBU leaves the GW in 2013, leaving them at 4. Will the GW disband? Even so, how can a 5 team conference be sanctioned? I thought the NCAA minimum was 6.

Just curious.

Until this year, the NCAA didn't even recognize the Great West as a conference. Even after recognition, the NCAA hasn't decided whether the Great West can grant DI offers to DII institutions so the conference can continue. To survive, the Great West's only option is to offer DII schools, and DII schools may not even accept the offer, especially with the $1.2 million fee to move up to DI (and no conference money from the Big Dance). With less than six full members, the Great West won't gain autobids. (Men's basketball would take seven more years with seven full members to gain that autobid.)

However, there are sports where the Great West likely continues. Baseball, for example, where New York Tech, N Colo, and soon, S Utah don't have a DI baseball home.

Derby, great job, but a little tough on the eyes. In cases where teams are leaving and/or joining the same conference for both sports, can you just type the conference names once?

Fresno State, for example, can you center the WAC in the middle of both sports (leaving) and center the MWC in the middle of both sports (joining) so that it is only typed one time?

Abbreviations would help too. Nearly everyone reading this board knows what ACC, A-Sun, CAA, CUSA, MWC, OVC, and WCC mean, so you don't have to type the full name each time.
