WBNS-10TV - Columbus, Ohio
‎10tv Sports has learned that Jim Tressel is in line to take a job with the University of Akron as an administrator. Sources tell us a news conference is scheduled for tomorrow morning at around 10am. An Akron spokesman issued this statement to Dom Tiberi tonight; "When Jim Tressel and other alumni assisted us in our search for a football coach last December, we began to engage in dynamic conversations about Jim’s professional goals outside of athletics. We share a common interest in innovative programs for student success. Our discussions continue."

Yep. Should be interesting to see how this plays out.

Probably Compliance and Oversight.

That is funny but it's also interesting to see what Akron is doing. They are going out of their way to get "names" in their program. It'll be interesting to find out what their football program looks like in 2-3 years.

It is a good bet that the MAC emblem will have been replaced with
a BE emblem. Look for Akron to announce the building of a new
and rather large basketball palace shortly.

Does he bring sanctions with him? Or is that only if he serves in a coaching capacity?

I'm pretty sure it's only as a coach. I read somewhere that the stipulations were that he wasn't allowed to coach within 5 or 10 years or something like that or that school would face sanctions.

I read that he lives in Florida, so what exactly will he deliver other than a "name"? And it's not like that is worth much these days.

Quote: On Friday morning, Irsay flew to Sarasota, Fla., where Tressel owns a home, according to the Indianapolis Star, and according to WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio, a second interview was conducted.

The press conference will be held at 10:00 AM and streamed on Akron's university website, http://www.uakron.edu

Word is that he's going to be the university's "Vice President of Strategic Engagement".

Substitute "Engagement" with "Cheating"...

Dumb move on Akron's part IMO.

As I mentioned elsewhere there are sanctions if he is in a role where he would have contact with athletes. I thought Akron might hire him as head football coach to assure he would NOT have any contact with athletes.

Don't go getting into any trouble, Akron.

Do it the right way, even if it means it's not overnight.

I was impressed for Akron trying to do a serious upgrade in honesty and integrity.

Watch and learn. Dumb moves are the only kind Akron makes.

VP of Strategic Engagement?

Developing marketing plans for Akron football?

RE: Jim Tressell to Akron in Administrator Role - Howl-n-Prowl - 02-02-2012 09:40 PM

"Strategic Engagement" rings a bit like "Creative Accounting" or "Maneuvering through Loopholes"
