Baptist Church bans interracial couples from joining - dcCid - 12-01-2011 08:40 AM Another so called “Christian” congregation joins Westboro Baptist is using Christ to justify their hatred and bigotry. I would love to be at the pearly gates when these people explain to St Peter how he does not understand and pull out scriptures to explain their interpretation. Oh, but they say it has nothing to do with race! http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/11/30/kentucky-church-bans-interracial-couples-from-joining-congregation/ RE: Baptist Church bans interracial couples from joining - TampaKnight - 12-01-2011 08:47 AM Interracial marriages? We're all people. RE: Baptist Church bans interracial couples from joining - AtlanticLeague - 12-01-2011 08:54 AM When I hear about stuff like this I can't help but think of two things: 1) You can't fix stupid people. Either you're curious about the rest of the world and you're willing to challenge what you think you know, or you live in a bubble of ignorance and will fight like hell to preserve it. 2) I'd like to trade many Americans for many of the smart, hardworking, and educated immigrants that are literally dying to come to the US RE: Baptist Church bans interracial couples from joining - Ninerfan1 - 12-01-2011 09:07 AM (12-01-2011 08:54 AM)AtlanticLeague Wrote: When I hear about stuff like this I can't help but think of two things: This. RE: Baptist Church bans interracial couples from joining - Fo Shizzle - 12-01-2011 09:08 AM I guess they don't sing "Jesus loves the little children" at that church. Very little disgusts me more than a devout Christian racist. RE: Baptist Church bans interracial couples from joining - logan5 - 12-01-2011 09:13 AM Quote:"I am not racist. I will tell you that. I am not prejudiced against any race of people, have never in my lifetime spoke evil about a race," said Thompson, the church's former pastor who stepped down earlier this year. "That's what this is being portrayed as, but it is not." Nothing says idiot like a self deceiver. RE: Baptist Church bans interracial couples from joining - DrTorch - 12-01-2011 10:24 AM All true. But at least recognize that this church is doing others a favor. Better to be openly hateful, and separate, than secretly spiteful and backstab others. If a group doesn't want interracial couples, then why would they want to join? Why would they even care? That church's judgement will be bad, but far better than progressives and race-baiters who extend the cycle of poverty and destruction. I have no problem with racists banding together peacefully. I would rather they be in the open instead of having to smell them in the crowd. RE: Baptist Church bans interracial couples from joining - nomad2u2001 - 12-01-2011 10:43 AM It's the church's right to reject whomever they wish. I support that right, because it is also the right to make a fool of yourself. Interracial couples will be able to find a church that will take them in. While I whole heartedly agree with this, I find this situation disturbing, very disturbing. I hope that the National Church Organization will take action against this local racist location. RE: Baptist Church bans interracial couples from joining - Lord Stanley - 12-01-2011 02:54 PM In the Tampa, FLA area there is a (now) very successful Thai Buddhist temple directly across the street from a (still) fire and brimstone southern Baptist church. When the temple was first built and very much taking baby step both in the community and in the USA, that Baptist church protested every time the temple would have its Sunday lunch, which was a fundraiser open to the public. The church would put out all manner of passive aggressive quotes on their signboard in flowery semiliterate arrested-adolescent rhetoric and sometimes even use their church vehicles to block the entrance to the temple. There were instances of vandalism and even some overt, racist threats. Well, as you are aware there is a fair amount of ex-military in Tampa including a lot of Vietnam vets with Thai Buddhist wives. As the story was related to me, one Sunday about 15 vets marched over to the Church and had a closed door session with the Baptist congregation, to include both the vets personal stories of war and love and kids and their wives’ Buddhism, plus a few not so subtle warnings that there would be no more trouble from the Church, capiche? The pastor left soon afterwards and while it is still not a perfect neighborly relationship, there is no more harassment of the temple, and many (but not all) of the Baptist families go to church in the morning, and eat at the temple for lunch. RE: Baptist Church bans interracial couples from joining - I'mMoreAwesomeThanYou - 12-01-2011 03:00 PM Disgusting. Lets start a church that doesn't allow people who drive electric cars and vote Liberal...oh wait...those people don't go to church. Nevermind. RE: Baptist Church bans interracial couples from joining - RaiderATO - 12-01-2011 05:59 PM Wish it said "A Baptist Church bans....." Baptists aren't near as united as Catholics. Actually, they're probably one of the least unified protestant denominations. Even the Southern Baptist Convention membership isn't all that united. Exactly some Baptist churches are in losely governed associations like Southern, or American, then there's the Independent Baptists. Independent Baptists are just as it implies free from any central governing association or central body. It's a shame Westboro and the bunch of idiots in the story above can taint all Baptists. Any private organization does. it just offends me as a Christian. But then my views probaly offend other christians and non christians. These are probably the most peaceful and introspective people on the planet.
