At least it's real talk now....and not just speculation.

At this point they have no where to go. Without a conference destination it is not going to happen.

I would love to have Appy State in the Sun Belt. Beautiful campus with great support for football...I vote yes.

Reading that 2nd article, CUSA is their target. :)

That is a big no! I take App State immediately and look to poach one of the WAC newbies two years after their transition.

We could take App State, that would have us at 10 for the 2012 season and if we could invite one more to come in with USA that would get us to 12 when they both joined.

Only problem is, I don't see App State accepting a Sun Belt invite so long as they think CUSA is obtainable.

Not that WKU helped the conference RPI any last year, but Appy State had an RPI of 195 with a SOS of 219 last year in bball.

Oh make no mistake about it, they do nothing for us in basketball, but I think they're a good enough add in football to outweigh the fact that they do nothing to help our terrible basketball conference.

Interesting idea.

current Sun Belt East

FAU, FIU, Troy, USA, WKU, MTSU.........four schools along a 500 mile stretch of the I-65 corridor and two in the Miami area.

Now people think we need to make room for Appy State.

Which of these existing member schools gets moved out of the eastern division and forced to play in the western Sun Belt?

Troy or USA I suppose, but if the 12th football school comes from the west, they'd be able to move back in a few years.

App state will quickly die in FBS. The Sun Belt should not waste its time adding them. If the Belt is hell bent on expanding. Then it should be investing in Georgia state or Georgia southern or both way before going after App. state.

They do nothing for basketball and they may be good as an FCS football program, but there are no guarantees they would do the same in FBS. No thanks, we don't need them.

Everyone is waiting to see what happens with the Big East, Big 12 and SEC. With the potential for major moves across the south and southeast it would be unwise for anyone to jump the gun too soon with regard to conference alignment. Who knows, CUSA could be ripped to shreds and the Sunbelt may have access to schools with more notoriety and higher national profiles than we currently offer.

Right now, would many App fans would be more excited about a potential home in CUSA than the Sunbelt? Yes, however that has more to do with greater visability and renewing former rivalries with ECU and Marshall than anything else. If those two are gone to BCS conferences, would a CUSA offer be that much better? Talk about being on an island - UAB and Memphis could be our closest conference opponents (and quite honestly, if Marshall is gone Memphis and UCF are probably gone too).

What we have done so far is put our name on the board for conferences to consider if/when they may have an opening. With potential major conference changes looming we had to let everyone know we're available so we wouldn't miss the opportunity if one arises.

Interested to know why we would "quickly die in FBS"? IMO, no one has been more ready to make the jump from FCS to FBS since the divisions have been seperated. (Not saying we will be more successful than anyone that has made the jump - just that we are well prepared to make the jump)

Not going to argue about whether we should be invited or not, there are many candidates and they all have their positives and negatives. I believe that we would make an excellent addition and you don't, no problem. We have no say-so in the matter anyway and we all have different opinions. If you're in Texas you probably don't want a new team from North Carolina, if you're in Tennessee you probably don't want a new team from New Mexico.

OK. Now go talk La Tech into apologizing and you've got yourself a deal.

As I wrote on the CUSA board Appy fans better get in it in their heads that CUSA isn't and won't be on the table. I have already showed them atleast 14 programs that are already a head of them in line, eleven IA prgrams and 3 IAA programs with more potential.

Those being:

Temple- Temple is who CUSA would contact 1st, no doubt in my mind.

Then in no order:
MTSU
WKU
North Texas
LA Tech
FAU/FIU
Louisiana Lafayette
Ark State
Ohio
Miami OH
Toledo

And IAA programs with more potental:
Charlotte
ODU
JMU

Charlotte, ODU and JMU have better facilites. They also have better basketball and olympic sports than Appy. Appy fans let th 3 year run in football go to their head.

RE: FWIW, App State Committee recommends move up to 1A/FBS - OwlFamily - 08-23-2011 09:15 AM

But in a way its all about perception as well.

I KNEW about Appy State because they stunned Michigan. The other three you listed (ODU, Charlotte, JMU) I have never heard of untill I started looking at confrence expansion.

Wrong or Right, Appy HAS a reputation as a good football program to the casual fan IMHO. If the 'Belt is about raising perception of its teams, then this is probably one of the few FCS teams that would do that.
