Vint to UTEP - mjs - 04-11-2011 11:57 AM

Somewhat of a surprise. I thought he would end up at Nebraska, but they apparently dropped out of the Vint sweepstakes. Didn't really see where he would fit in here anyway.

Bummer, I was hoping he'd play here.

So was I, but it may be for the best if the talent we do have coming in is the real deal.

UTEP had 8 seniors this year so a lot of room on their roster

RE: Vint to UTEP - MICHAELSPAPPY - 04-11-2011 12:13 PM

BTH is really plugged in, isn't he?

I wonder how "hard" we recruited him after getting a commitment from Javes. But, on the other hand, Tim Floyd is a great recruiter and UTEP has a great basketball tradition. They may have just beaten us out, fair and square. No surprise to me since we never get Arkansas kids- Of course, with his dad being our color man, I did wonder if this time might be different.

Pretty amazing to lose a big man and not feel too awful about it.

No I don't feel bad at all. Figure we had recruit him with his connections to the program and the fact that there are only so many 6-10 kids out there. But, while there's no way to know how he will progress and develop, I have seen no evidence that he is better than Gus, WN, or Javes. Looks like we will be fine up front for several years.

That should keep Bobby impartial in his commentary.

RE: Vint to UTEP - eh9198 - 04-11-2011 06:13 PM

Man I hate to hear that. I was really hoping for him, and really felt like we'd get him after that article in the Demozette.

RE: Vint to UTEP - Karl B - 04-11-2011 09:19 PM

I felt all along he'd end up a Trojan. Oh well, wrong again!

RE: Vint to UTEP - LRTrojan - 04-11-2011 09:58 PM

If we actually did want Vint, then it's another case where Shields couldn't land an Arkansas kid with Trojan connections.

RE: Vint to UTEP - MICHAELSPAPPY - 04-12-2011 07:09 AM

Vint waited around, and in the meantime we brought in what look to be some pretty good bigs, and the field got crowded while he waited.

Exactly. Have fun in northern Mexico...I mean El Paso. He blew a chance to be coached "up" by a 15 year NBA veteran and having his dad at everyone of his games. Floyd will probably be gone in a year or get the program on probation.

With him, that is likely.

I hear you receive dual citizenship when you graduate from UTEP.04-cheers

He maybe just like: solo, patterson, and smith too guys.

RE: Vint to UTEP - eh9198 - 04-12-2011 06:47 PM

Here's hoping

RE: Vint to UTEP - outsideualr - 04-12-2011 10:13 PM

Let's hope it's after only one year.

We have absolutely no need for Hooper Vint, assuming Gus, WN, Javes, White, and Marlo are here next year. Where exactly would he have played? It would have created an uncomfortable situation for Steve, with his dad as our color guy on the radio. His going to UTEP is best for everyone involved.
