Stand by for the requisite "Yeah, but..." FWIW just over half of that 6.7 million in total mens BB revenue goes to the total operating budget for mens BB...rest goes to support non revenue. Yee haw. FWIW II: as far as basketball goes, big jump in revenue for DePaul. Big drop by ND from last year's reporting. Rest are pretty consistant. RE: Big East Athletic Department Information - Bearcats#1 - 01-31-2011 06:30 PM what was our revenue in bball back in Huggs time when we were a top program? How much have we dropped? RE: Big East Athletic Department Information - b - 01-31-2011 07:02 PM seems like nd should be a worst bb team. also take schools like nova, how much of their bb rev. support non-rev sports? at least we have BE football to help cover those cost. if money is so important then we should be able to pick the order standings to some degree by the revenue. Someone should post the revenue of all the teams in the ncaa come march. teams with the most money should be your final fours. and why was uc football so good under bk with so little $? how could uconn be good? why ain't rutgers good? RE: Big East Athletic Department Information - rath v2.0 - 01-31-2011 07:06 PM ND uses all of that cash for basketball. Not shared with non revenue like most programs. Their football team picks up that tab. ND's operating and recruiting budget is in the top half of the conference. And if you look at men's basketball total operating budget, you almost can pick the standings. At least the top 8. Only outlier is Marquette who has the highest BE basketball budget. Then come the usual suspects....Cuse, UL, Pitt, Nova, Uconn, WVU, Georgetown, ND...(my order is off by a little....I will give you the exact order in just a bit if you are interested with a link to the US Dept. Of Education where all these stats are federally mandated to be reported yearly). EDIT: The stuff below changes what I said about ND a bit. They changed their financing levels a bunch recently. Not shared with non revenue like most programs. their football team picks up that tab. shouldn't it work the same for football? it would seem money would be a bigger issue in football then basketball considering the amount of recruiting you do, along with more coaches and players staying at least 3 years. maybe i've made myself dizzy with all of this but how can uconn be good in football? I think coaching is more of a factor then what you're giving it. RE: Big East Athletic Department Information - rath v2.0 - 01-31-2011 08:34 PM Just talking resources and dollars and sense/cents. No opinions or spin. These are straight up the reported numbers. These are the most recent complete 2009 numbers - changes some of what I said since I previously had 2008's. Some notable changes that surprised me in budget from prior years (UL overtook Marquette for the top spot...ND's budget took a hit, plus see the note below) and recruiting budget (some top teams like Pitt and Nova cut theirs back and teams like USF really poured more $$ into it). If you want a excel spreadsheet I can email. Big East Men's BB Operating Budget Rankings: (*Note: DePaul and Seton Hall took inexplicable, huge jumps up from the prior year...Without seeing their documentation, I can only speculate what that reflects...possibly charge offs or facility fees...just guessing b/c they more than doubled their reported budget from prior years with no increase in recruiting budget, et. al..) 1. UL (9,089,769) 2. Marquette (8,185,030) 3. Syracuse (8,086,376) 4. Georgetown (7,393,234) 5. UCONN (6,940,903) 6. St. John's (6,741,298) 7. *DePaul (6,528,661) 8. West Virginia (6,377,761) 9. * Seton Hall (6,215,923) 10. Villanova (6,117,021) 11. Pittsburgh (6,046,724) 12. Providence (4,696,862) 13. Rutgers (4,495,147) 14. Notre Dame (4,060,565) 15. Cincinnati (3,754,077) 16. South Florida (3,215,424) Big East Men's BB Recruiting Budget Rankings: 1. Marquette (957,933) 2. West Virginia (669,844) 3. Syracuse (623,448) 4. Louisville (599,837) 5. UCONN (592,928) 6. Notre Dame (576,812) 7. Rutgers (443,864) 8. South Florida (384,387) 9. Pittsburgh (358,076) 10. Cincinnati (356,407) 11. Georgetown (333,375) 12. Villanova (303,164) 13. Providence (249,741) 14. St. Johns (178,457) 15. Depaul (137,042) 16. Seton Hall (91,712) Note II: These are prior to Lavin's hire...reports out of NY are that the recruiting budget exploded this year so take where St. John's is on this with a grain of salt. Enjoy RE: Big East Athletic Department Information - Bearcats#1 - 01-31-2011 08:41 PM in fairness to Mick...(and I'm pissed at him now so stay with me)....look at our bball revenues/operating budget etc....we are near bottom. My question to all of us is: is it fair to expect the man (or ANY coach we may get) to compete with the elite in this conference? It's a tough deal because to raise our revenues/op budget we need to win....but to do that we need talent but to get the talent and win and bring the fans it takes money...it's a vicious circle. Just saying...we put all this pressure on Mick to compete at the top of the conference and then the reality of the numbers comes out. Honestly, all things in consideration (what he inherited, what he has to work with money wise etc etc etc) I'm amazed we are even talking ncaa tourney right now. RE: Big East Athletic Department Information - Topkat - 01-31-2011 09:06 PM "Capturing the full picture of athletics subsidization can be difficult, even with NCAA revenue and expense documents. Although collaborative efforts by the NCAA and the National Association of College and University Business Officers have brought greater standardization of reporting, schools use many different ways of categorizing and counting revenues and expenses." "Nationally, Cincinnati's $10.7 million subsidy is a fraction of the $826 million in annual public and university subsidies received by major-college programs in 2008, a USA TODAY analysis of athletic department financial data found. As at Cincinnati, many of these millions are going to programs in the six richest conferences — the Big East, Atlantic Coast, Big Ten, Big 12, Pacific-10 and Southeastern."
