Maybe we need this thread plus a single post stickied with the results - notes - etc?

Lets add Good People Beer Tap room, its near UAB and tasty Beer. Avondale is good, but I haven't been to their tap room yet.

Avondale is very good, I try to swing by there since they don't bottle or can their brew. Hop City is a pretty laid back spot to grab a drink as well.

Cahaba's tap room is pretty cool too.

Avondale is great, and having Saw's Sould Kitchen next door makes it a destination. The brewery does not sell food, so you can get takeout at Saw's and eat it at the brewery. That's some good eats and good beer right there.

I don't know if they still have it, it's a seasonal, but the Brothel Brown Ale was awfully good...

Avondale also has the semi-new 41st street pub which has shuffleboard. There's also the Freshfully organic grocery store that will soon start serving lunch.

I'll have some time in June to update this monstrosity. Until then, I suggest folks looking for the most updated info use the Birmingham IN Guide app or visiting the website:

Not only have some gone out of business (Sweet Bones), but some may have changed owners & / or cooking staff and the quality of offering might have changed for the worse. Some, like the replacement for Sweet Bones, have not been mentioned by name or assessment of quality.

I hate to ask, but why are you so hung up on this? I said I'd get around to updating it this summer. Also, why are you.so hung up on Seasons 52? It's an upscale dining chain from the same company that franchises Olive Garden. Honestly, I wouldn't even put it on my list because it's not unique to Bham... if I'm going to recommend upscale to a visitor, I'd point them to Hot & Hot, Highlands, Bettola, or Cafe Dupont.

Should we add Iron City to the list? Good food, very Blazer friendly. Those staying for extra nights (other than game night) may want to check out what's happening on the entertainment side.

Yes. That is a really neat place.

RE: Updated 8/29/12--BlazerTalk.com Guide to B'ham - UABslant - 02-19-2014 09:15 AM

I will have some time this weekend to update the list... there are some new hotels, renamed hotels, broken links, and many new restaurants/bars/etc that deserve a spot on the list.

Has anybody mentioned Pop's in five points?

Best bacon slaw dogs in the world

I'll add that, too... these are the kind of comments I need to update the thread.

I say it every year, but this time I mean it... I will update the Guide this summer. At some point. I'll add pics as well.

New burger place on the Southside: Mooyah. Burgers are somewhat like Wendy's. Fries are fresh cut in the restaurant. Some of the best fries I've ever had. They also serve shakes here. Located on 7th Ave S, between Richard Arrington and 22nd St, next to where the new Taco Bell is being built. Same city block as Newk's, Arby's, and the Fish Market.

I ate at one in Knoxville on the way back from Gatlinburg. Good food, but a bit pricey for a cheap hamburger and fries. Reminds me more of the 5 guys style of Hambruger Joint. There's also one on HWY 280 just south of the interstate (Forgive me I don't know the names of the streets over that way). I think I still prefer Steak & Shake or Johnny Rockets.

RE: Updated 8/29/12--BlazerTalk.com Guide to B'ham - TPBlaze84 - 06-13-2014 10:48 PM

I went to Mooyah on 280 last week, I agree, best french fries I've ever had.

Jack Brown's Burger and Beer Joint in Lakeview.

Craft beer and amazing burgers, they use KOBE beef. Also you get this sexual sauce with your fries, makes you want to get up and do a dance. I forgot what my burger was called, but it came with hot dogs and jalapenos on it, and of course I added bacon. All their burgers are crazy, but awesome. They have a special burger every day.

RE: Updated 8/29/12--BlazerTalk.com Guide to B'ham - BlazerFromMD - 06-17-2014 11:35 AM

Hmmm, sexual sauce on the fries. The imagery is not too pleasant. I think I'll pass.
