Certainly not an "unbiased" perspective on things. But the fact remains that there's a push to put a mosque at Ground Zero. Any opinions?

I know I'll get lambasted for this, but if America is to be true to its principles, I don't see this as a problem.

I know the terrorists were Islamic and that they used a twister version of their religion as the basis for their hatred of America. But I can't condem the whole religion because of the fanatics. I mean, the KKK twists the Bible to justify their beliefs.

I dunno. I know I'll regret this post, but here it goes.

I understand that point. But here's the difference. I'm not saying there should be no mosques. I'm not even saying there should be no mosques in NYC.

I'm saying that there shouldn't be a mosque at this site. And the fact that America is full of local zoning boards and such that make all sorts of decisions about what can and cannot be built, America is failing if a zoning board approves this and it goes forward.

Torch: On what grounds should the zoning board not approve it?

A mosque at ground zero = the terrorist win

They will celebrate in the streets. F'em

Zoning boards in NYC need grounds?

Are you seriously asking that question?

I'm interested in that too? How is this a win for the terrorist's? If anything it's a strong message against them. We are NOT CRUSADERS. We are not shoving Christianity down their throats. Can they say the same? Hell your beheaded if your not Muslim in certain parts. This is an act of tolerance and it shows strength not weakness. It's what America is about.

Yes, and yes.

It would be similar to allowing a Japanese shrine to be built next to the Arizona memorial at Pearl Harbor. The Japanese building it may not have agreed with nor taken part in the attack but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be a slap in the face to those who were killed during the attack. CB is 100% correct in stating this would be seen as a victory by the terrorists.

It destroys a powerful message they use against us. "We can not tolerate their way of life". We are Crusaders. Demolishes their argument and takes fuel from their cause.

RE: Mosque at 9/11 Ground Zero? - SuperFlyBCat - 05-28-2010 12:17 PM

There are 2,300 mosques in the US, there is plenty of real estate elsewhere.

RE: Mosque at 9/11 Ground Zero? - Rebel - 05-28-2010 12:19 PM

Does anyone know what one of the first buildings the Muslims built on "conquered" lands, normally in the capitol of the conquered land, or place that the conquered revered?

Yeah, that.

I'm with cb. F'em.

This is what seperates us. I look at it like an insurance policy and a good one at that. If it keeps the nutso radicals from trying to strike at our financial heart beat. Build that and put a Buddha palace right next door.

Yeah, fanatical Muslims would NEVER attack an area with a Mosque, even if they knew they could kill Americans. 01-wingedeagle

Tell that to the guys presently in the sandbox.

That's not their cause. That's a myth.

Well this is a rare case where I'd say it's self-evident. Zoning boards use all sorts of reasons, to say they are capricious, is an understatement. So, it's odd that suddenly this board becomes such an easy touch on granting approval. I'll call it out: bribery.

That's reason #1.

#2 is this is in poor taste. It's a grievous injustice to everyone who died or suffered there. It's an insult to everyone who sacrificed to serve the people and area that were harmed.

I'm with Reb and CB. Radical Muslims do not care if they kill their own kind.

Or, it says, that Westerners are weak and Islamists can point to this as proof that they can accomplish their goals given time.

Islamists are not trying to make that claim. To the contrary, ...

To clarify, when you say "It's what America is about", you're not referring to the statement "you're beheaded if you're not Muslim in certain parts", right? At least in today's environment, right?

This is pretty despicably insensitive, but not uncharacteristic of other Islamist endeavors, including the destruction of ancient Buddhist statues in Afghanistan, the desecration of sacred tombs in the West Bank and the conversion of any and all religious temples, churches, etc. into mosques when they gain control of them.
