Saw Pacific Rim 2. Wasn't as good as the first. I thought it was OK, but my wife liked it a lot. Saw it in the cheap theater so I didn't feel cheated. I was entertained, but not sure about #3.
#2 could have been better for sure.

Watched The Lost Boys on Netflix....haven't seen that since in a long time.

Don't know why people make it so personal. You loving a movie that I disliked has no bearing on my life, and vice versa. But the internet tells me I'm supposed to hate you and find you to be a vile creature.

I wish the majority of posters in the political forum would take this approach

Why do you think I got out of there years ago? Can't handle the vitriol from people i've never even met

RE: The movie thread - GhentFan - 04-26-2018 09:40 PM

Heads up, I suggest you guys avoid the internet for a while if you don't want the new Avengers movie ruined.

I just came from seeing it. Had dinner with my wife before hand and overheard people who had just watched it spill just about every major plot point. 1 of them was even tweeting it. :(

Avengers Infinity War / theater
--BRUH'... so much to take in, so many questions... and answers but then more questions... I'll say that the humor, the action, and the narrative for this story were on point. Also, it was quite a bit darker than any of their other offerings.

RE: The movie thread - GhentFan - 04-27-2018 07:21 AM

Gonna watch it again. Damn it was great.

Just amazing. No spoilers here. Can't wait to see it again, so many amazingly cool moments

I've tried to avoid the reviews because I want to only view the movie through my memory, but I've read a couple columns. It's amazing to me how many people nitpick the hell out of things, as if this is anything more than a comic book movie. This isn't Call Me By Your Name. I find it really hard to believe someone who likes comic book movies could watch that movie and not come out with a big smile on their face. Isn't the goal of a comic book movie to come out feeling like you just had a ton of fun and got to see something truly unique? There were so many scenes that just oozed with Cool (with a capital C).

Saw it tonight. Straight up amazing. The Russo Brothers did a great job weaving together disparate story lines into one coherent plot. I didn’t feel one minute was wasted.

RE: The movie thread - Brookes Owl - 04-29-2018 12:08 PM

Watched The Shape of Water this weekend (amazon). Remarkable, gorgeous film. If you’ve seen The Creature from the Black Lagoon, it’s the inspiration for this film and it’ll be the first thing you think of when you see the creature in The Shape of Water. One thing that really stood out to me was the soundtrack - it was perfect for this film.

Couldn't agree more.

It was dramatic, action packed, shocking, funny, emotional.

My only MINOR complaint was that even though it was 2 hours 40 minutes, it seemed a bit rushed at times, like the story was at warp speed. Probably could have stretched it out to 3 hours for a better pace.

But that's MINOR.

Overall = EPIC!

do you think you write differently than you talk? i know i do. it's probably from all the books i've read. but i agree, the transition to film can be kinda painful... as evidenced from your post. that is a terribly lame thing to say

On the flip side I feel it's handled well as they're saying 'I want you so much that I want to actually become you' to not be able to tell where one person ends and the other begins.

It's part of the reason I feel it's wonderfully adapted as that scene would be tough to pull off but I feel they (the actors) nail it. I mean, CMBYU did win an Academy Award for it's film adaptation. (see below)

scene in question:

That said, the first cut of the film was over 3 hours (not uncommon with long books) so some things got left out.

Am I the only one that didn't like this movie? The last big fight scene was REALLY good but overall it was kind of meh for me. Maybe I'm getting burned out on Marvel movies in general. Then again I've never seen the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and I don't like the Hulk storyline. That may be a big reason.

It felt like it went on forever but Scarlett Johansen looking fine as ever.

RE: The movie thread - PirateTreasureNC - 05-18-2018 10:57 PM

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome / BR
--Just loved it/

Mad Max Fury Road / BR
--Just an EPIC action movie

Karate Kid I-IV / dvd
--I, a classic.
--II, I loved the story getting taken back to Myagi's roots in Okinawa
--III, not bad but the overly 80's token villain and his trainee kind of make this one bad IMO.
--IV, bad but if they had of changed the school Elite Guard (or whatever) to something else it might worked better.

Deadpool / BR
--wanted to freshen up before DP2

Superman / BR
--A great super hero movie IMO. Specifically the Director's Cut version.

Superman II / BR
--Solid follow up. Zod and Ursa really shine as villains in this one IMO.

Black Panther / BR
--I really liked the main villain's deal. I think they were smart to get into the politics of Wakanda before and after the King's death. I think they played a lot of cards right in this movie but in spots, there was some really questionable CGI usage--it looked noticeably off.

Black Lightning S1/ NF
--Not bad, will watch S2.

Legends of Tomorrow S4 / NF
--Liked the season but I thought this season was arguably their weakest so far.

V for Vendetta / BR
--I really liked the political intrigue and satire of this movie.

Deadpool 2 / theater
--As good, if not better than the first one in spots. Not sure if it was overly meta....

RE: The movie thread - JTiger - 05-21-2018 06:45 AM

Deadpool 2 is really good. If you like the first one you will love this one. I always cringe when a sequel comes out to a good movie but this one pulled it off. I don't know if anyone but Ryan Reynolds could make this happen. Josh Brolin as the "villain" in did a really good job as well. He got ripped for this part. Go and see this movie if you liked the first one. Still inappropriate for small kids but less inappropriate than the first one.

I agree. Some friends also saw it and came away with ambivalent. But I thought it was as good if not better than the first. Much less paint by numbers story and some really cool side characters

RE: The movie thread - HornLakeTiger - 05-21-2018 04:46 PM

Saw Deadpool 2. Much better story than the first. But honestly, I'm feeling a bit of Marvel/superhero burn out. Don't get me wrong, Infinity War was amazing, and I'm sure Avengers 4 will break all the records next year....but I dunno, is Ant Man and the Wasp a story that NEEDS to be told? I get the feeling that one will be Marvel's lowest grossing film to date. It's like.... superhero after superhero after superhero after superhero, and four Marvel character films that close together? Just seems like overkill...maybe it's just me.
