UNF grants releases to two basketball players - GlaserBeam - 12-30-2009 04:24 AM
Two University of North Florida players were granted their release from the men's basketball team and will seek to transfer to another institution, UNF coach Matthew Driscoll said Wednesday.
Sophomore forward Zack Riggins, who started 10 games for the Ospreys a year ago, and freshman forward Etienne Effenberg requested their release and will look to find schools closer to their hometowns, according to Driscoll.
"We were aware and in communication recently with both Zack and Etienne about the prospects of finishing their degree and basketball careers at schools closer to their home," Driscoll said in a statement.
"We appreciate all they did for us both on and off the floor and pray for success in their future."
Riggins appeared in all six of UNF's games this season, averaging 2.2 points per game. The Leavenworth, Kan., native played in 29 games as a freshman and averaged 5.3 points and 2.8 rebounds an per game.
Effenberg, a walk-on from Bishop Verot High School in Fort Myers, has not appeared in any games this season.
If both players enroll at another school before the winter semester, they would be eligible to play next year following the completion of the fall semester.

Looks like Coach Driscoll is cleaning house...Driscoll must be making room for recruits who fit his style of play.
